According to Psaki, the Education Department is looking into the matter of restarting student loan payments.

The White House press secretary likewise stated that as the August deadline of the latest moratorium extension gets closer, there will be more reviews into when student loan repayments begin again.

Finally, Psaki claimed that “breathing room” for Americans, along with the state of the economy, will play a role in when moratoriums on student loans reach an end.

Not good news for Biden’s base

Many people who voted for Biden did so because they expected he’d make good on his promise of loan forgiveness.

This is especially true of young people. Just this week, a new survey showed that young people’s support for Democrats is declining. Student loans have undoubtedly played a role in this.

The news that moratoriums won’t last forever is a sure letdown for voters who thought a Biden presidency would relieve them of dues owed to the federal government.

With midterms elections being seven months out, time will tell how much this administration’s approach to student loans hurts or helps Democrats.
