Earlier this week, the state of Arizona declared a national emergency. Governor Ducey sent the National Guard to the border due to the crisis underway and its subsequent impacts.

Earlier today, the Texas attorney general sued President Biden over the coronavirus transmission risk posed by the Southern border crisis. For weeks upon weeks now, the GOP has urged the Biden administration to fix the border crisis; however, the crisis remains ongoing and now states are forced to pick up the federal government’s slack.

On Wednesday, former Vice President Mike Pence weighed in on the Southern border crisis in a scathing opinion piece published by The Daily Signal.

The former vice president on the Southern border crisis

In Pence’s article, he noted the Trump administration’s success in not only securing the Southern border, but also significantly reducing illegal immigration.

The former vice president then explained that within “three short months,” Biden reversed all the positive developments at the border; Pence also pointed out that Biden’s policies have engendered surges in illegal immigration. Human smugglers and more crimes against Americans living near the Southern border are on the rise as well.

After noting the consequences of the border crisis, Pence stated that it’s an offshoot of “progressive policies” from Biden, Harris, and other Democrats. Finally, the former vice president stated that Democrats can end the Southern border crisis by bringing back “commonsense border enforcement”; this largely involves allowing ICE and Border Patrol officials to do their jobs.

Radio silence from President Biden

At this time, the president has not responded to the op-ed from Pence. Biden also has yet to respond to the lawsuit against him from the Texas attorney general.

Republicans have grown increasingly critical of Biden as the border crisis gets worse. Former President Trump recently weighed in on the matter as well; according to Trump, the border’s current condition is a result of Biden not leaving things as they were when he first came into office.

Some voters with loyalty to the GOP are hopeful that Biden’s poor management of the Southern border ultimately helps Republicans retake the Senate and House majorities.

Yellowstone Capital reached a settlement agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in connection with the regulator’s allegations that it engaged in deceptive and unfair practices targeting small businesses.

The FTC accused Yellowstone Capital and its owners Yitzhak (Isaac) Stern, and Jeffrey Reece of withdrawing money from small businesses’ bank accounts without permission.

The consumer protection watchdog also alleged that the defendants deceived small businesses about the amount of financing they will receive. The defendants also lied about certain features of their financing products in online ads and other types of marketing.

For example, the defendants falsely claimed in their advertisements that their loans do not require collateral or a personal guarantee. In fact, they required business owners to sign a guarantee holding them personally responsible for the entire amount if their business defaulted.  The defendants also required collateral in the form of a purported security interest or lien on everything the business owned.

The merchant cash advance provider and its owners engaged in these deceitful business practices for years. Their actions violated the FTC Act, according to the regulator.

On Thursday, the FTC announced that Yellowstone Capital agreed to a $9.8 million settlement.

In addition to the monetary penalty, the merchant cash advance provider agreed to an order permanently prohibiting it from directly or indirectly participating in advertising, marketing, promoting, distributing, servicing, or offering any Financing Product or Service.

Yellowstone Capital also consented to the order permanently prohibiting it from making misrepresentations of any financing product or service. It also agreed to the prohibition against unfair billing practices.

Furthermore, the FTC required the defendants to clearly and conspicuously disclose any fees that will be paid by consumers for the financing, as well as the actual amount of money that a consumer will receive after the fees are charged.

The FTC voted 4-0 approving the stipulated final order against the defendants. order is subject to the final approval of the U.S. District Court for the Souther District of New York.

Democrats have a lot of bills they’d like to pass through Congress. The For the People Act, Protecting the Right to Organize Act, and H.R. 51 are just a few examples.

There are some commonalities between these bills, despite them centering around different matters. For starters, all of the aforementioned legislation is heavily leftist and lacks GOP support. Secondly, none of the three bills listed above will pass the Senate so long as the filibuster remains in place.

Democrats are very much aware of this and therefore looking to eliminate the filibuster once and for all. However, on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi distanced herself from the increasingly intense Senate filibuster debate.

Where does Speaker Pelosi stand on the Senate filibuster?

During a news conference, Pelosi faced questions about the far-left’s growing push to do away with the Senate filibuster. The House Speaker declined to take one side or the other; instead, Pelosi simply declared that whether or not to eliminate the filibuster is ultimately a “debate” that the U.S. Senate must take up.

Outside of Capitol Hill earlier today, Democrat Rep. Cori Bush stated that axing the filibuster is the only way for Democrats to pass H.R. 51, H.R. 1, and other bills. When questioned about this, Pelosi stated that she chooses not to insert herself in Senate rules and affairs.

Democrats pushing to end the Senate filibuster are now alleging that the filibuster is a relic of Jim Crow racism. This perspective was not one that Democrats had when they previously employed the filibuster as the minority party in Congress.

Does the Senate filibuster stand a chance?

At this time, the Senate filibuster is unlikely to go anywhere. For starters, not all Democrats in the Senate are supportive of ending the filibuster.

Sen. Joe Manchin, for instance, has declared that under no circumstances will he back the elimination of the filibuster. Manchin furthermore believes that the Senate filibuster is important and necessary in Congress.

Of course, Republicans are not on board with getting rid of the filibuster either. Therefore, the removal of the Senate filibuster is extremely unlikely at this time.

Emergent BioSolutions will face congressional investigation in connection with its federal contracts to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines developed by Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca.

On Monday, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-New York) and Rep. James Clyburn (D- South Carolina) announced that they are launching an investigation into Emergent BioSolutions.

Maloney is the Chairwoman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform while Clyburn is Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis.

The two top House Democrats’ inquiry was prompted by the recent disturbing report that Emergent BioSolutions facility in Baltimore failed to meet quality control process standards.

Johnson & Johnson identified that one batch of drug substance for its COVID-19 vaccine did not meet quality standards at the Emergent BioSolutions facility. As a result, the multinational medical device & pharmaceutical company discarded 15 million doses of its Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.

In a letter to the top executives of Emergent BioSolutions, Maloney and Clyburn stated that their committees will investigate whether the company took advantage its relationship with a key Trump administration official to profit from federal contracts despite its history of violations.

Emergent BioSolutions received $628 million from the federal government to establish a primary U.S. facility for manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines.

Emergent BioSolutions has a history of quality control problems

Maloney and Clyburn noted that Dr. Robert Kadlec, a former consultant for Emergent BioSolutions and served as Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response during the Trump administration appeared to have pushed the $628 million contracts award for the company.

Specifically, we are investigating reports that Emergent received multi-million-dollar contracts to manufacture coronavirus vaccines despite a long, documented history of inadequately trained staff and quality control issues,” wrote Maloney and Clyburn in their letter.

The two top House Democrats said they are concerned about the circumstances that led to the award of this contract under the prior Administration and whether Emergent’s manufacturing errors could hinder vaccination efforts that are critical to saving lives and ending the coronavirus crisis.”

Maloney and Clyburn requested the company’s CEO Robert Kramer and Executive Chairman Fuad El-Hibri to testify at a hearing on May 19.

Police reform is a hot button issue in America. There are many people who believe that more training and other changes to the way policing happens in this nation are necessary; of course, there are others, such as Democrat House Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who seek to abolish law enforcement altogether.

Since Tlaib’s tweet that calls for the end of police in America, the White House has confirmed that President Biden has a different perspective. The Democrat president is supportive of reforming, rather than dismantling, law enforcement in the United States.

Next week, when Biden delivers remarks before Congress, he will call for police reform.

What to expect from President Biden’s upcoming congressional speech

Next Wednesday, the Democrat president will speak before a congressional joint session. This speech will involve advocacy for police reform, something the White House maintains that Biden is eager to sign into law.

Earlier today, the White House also confirmed that Biden believes that legal convictions of law enforcement officers are too hard. Therefore, the president seeks to lower the bar. During a White House press conference today, Jen Psaki confirmed that Biden is in talks with legislators about the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Under this bill, police officers would no longer have clearance to use chokeholds. Furthermore, the George Floyd Act would mandate that officers only employ lethal force against individuals as a very last resort.

Psaki confirmed earlier today that President Biden will promote this bill; Biden will also push for police reform in general when he addresses Congress next week.

The current status of public safety concerns

Democrat lawmakers, leftist leaders, and their supporters are eager to demonize and trash police; however, a new Rasmussen Reports poll shows that more than six in ten Americans are concerned about the results that anti-police talk will have on public safety at large.

When police officers are in the heat of a dangerous moment, they have a split second to make a decision. This is a reality that many anti-police people do not consider and cannot relate to.

Many Americans are also disturbed that leftist calls to “defund the police” have now shifted to “no more policing.”

Anti-police rhetoric is sadly on the rise in the United States. Democrats continue to fan the flames by portraying law enforcement officers as inherently racist. The White House has openly alleged that police officers disproportionately employ higher levels of force against black and brown Americans.

Just earlier this month, a sitting member of Congress urged for the dismantling of law enforcement in America. Rep. Rashida Tlaib later doubled down on this talk while doing a Monday interview with SiriusXM.

Many conservatives are pointing out the important ways in which police officers contribute to public safety. Now, amid the surge of anti-police rhetoric, new polling shows that most Americans are concerned about this type of talk adversely impacting public safety in the nation.

A threat to public safety in America

Without police officers, America would quickly regress into Mad Max and Gotham City. Earlier today, a Rasmussen Reports poll shed insight into where most Americans stand on police and keeping the nation safe.

According to the survey’s data, 63% of Americans believe that growing censure against law enforcement will lead to fewer police officers and therefore less public safety. Only 29% of respondents said this posed little or no concern to them; the remaining 7% described themselves as unsure about whether or not the attacks against law enforcement will engender less public safety due to a shortage in law enforcement.

Interestingly enough, the Rasmussen Reports survey shows that majorities across the political spectrum are worried about anti-police rhetoric engendering less public safety. 84% of Republicans cited this as an issues; meanwhile, 59% of Independents and 52% of Democrats agreed.

What is the solution?

Dismantling law enforcement, as some Democrats are calling for, is not a viable solution to perceived issues.

However, Republicans and Democrats in Washington are working on bipartisan police reform. Days ago, Democrat Rep. Karen Bass confirmed that she and other lawmakers in her party are working with Republican legislators to pass police reform. The bipartisan group of lawmakers additionally strives to win a supermajority vote in the Senate to get the bill onto President Biden’s desk.

The White House has confirmed this month that President Biden looks forward to signing into law police reform.

The Action Comics #1 Ashcan sold for $204,000 at an April 5th Heritage Auctions. When it was minted in 1937, DC publisher Harry Donenfeld claimed it would be “the most important comic book title ever published.”

It was over a year after the ashcan was trademarked that the June 1938 Action Comics #1 hit the newsstands. It sold for 10 cents a copy. And on the same day that the Ashcan was auctioned the original Superman comic was sold. One of only three known copies in existence was sold for $3.25 million.

Ashcans used to Trademark Comics

This comic was produced by DC as the Action Comics ashcan. The ashcan was created to protect the name and concept from competing comic publishers. For a decade starting in the 1930s publishers of comics used “ashcans” to register trademarks.

They created these mock-ups of titles and logos that they were planning to publish. A copy of the ashcan was included with a trademark application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. There were very few copies of ashcans made. And even fewer survived. This makes them the rarest comics in existence.

This ashcan was only one of three known copies. Another copy sold for $50,000 twelve years ago. And the last is housed in the DC Comics vaults.

History of Rare Ashcan

Intriguingly, the Action Comics ashcan doesn’t have an image of Superman. Inside there are pages from Detective Comics. But it does have a unique cover of a ghoul holding a dripping knife. And the cover art was never used anywhere else.

In 1937, with no concept for the comic, Donenfeld feared that his beloved title would be taken. So he had four separate ashcans created to protect variations of the name he had chosen. In addition to Action Comics, he developed Action Funnies, Double Action Comics, and Triple Action Comics, as distinct trademarks.

There is only one Double Action and three copies of the Action Funnies ashcan titles left.  No copies of the Triple Action ashcan have survived. Before this one, in 2017 a sale of Double Action Comics #1 and #2 ashcans sold for $80,000.

According to the Heritage Auctions description detailing the item for sale: “The cover art by Craig Flessel is unique to this ashcan and had been originally slated to be the cover to Detective Comics #2, but editors Vin Sullivan and Whitney Ellsworth rejected it for being too gruesome. The interior contents are eight previously printed pages from Detective Comics #1.”

It was noted on the  Heritage Auction website that the book was in pristine condition. According to The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide comic book historian, Gary Colabuono, owned this book, along with the Action Funnies ashcan. He obtained it directly from retired DC president, Sol Harrison, in 1986.

This is the first time the ashcan book was offered for public sale. And Action Comics #1 Ashcan comic is the first time that  Action Comics title ever appeared on a comic book cover.

Since leaving the White House, former Vice President Mike Pence has taken an active, yet low-key, role in conservative politics. Months ago, Pence declined the invitation to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) of 2021; however, the former vice president has taken roles at the Heritage Foundation and Young America’s Foundation.

In recent weeks, rumors have surfaced that Pence is considering a 2024 run for president. However, the former vice president himself has not confirmed or denied these claims. In fact, in the months since January, Pence has not been in the spotlight as much.

Not too long ago, Pence also underwent surgery after doctors detected a low heart rate. On Tuesday, however, the former vice president confirmed that he is well on his way to recovery.

What to know about Pence’s surgery and post-surgery recovery

Earlier this year, medical professionals implanted a pacemaker device in Pence’s chest to help with a slow heart rate. The 61-year-old former vice president underwent surgery last Wednesday at the Virginia-based Fairfax Medical Campus.

This morning, Pence confirmed that his doctors have given him good news. The former vice president is now headed towards a full recovery and getting back to work. Next week, Pence is set to give a keynote speech in South Carolina; this speech will mark Pence’s first public remarks since his exit from the White House in January.

After Pence’s surgery last week, he issued a public statement thanking the healthcare staffers who were of aid to him.

The 2024 presidential race

While Pence is not yet confirming that he’ll seek the White House in 2024, some Americans view his upcoming keynote speech as a strong indicator.

After all, South Carolina is the state that conducts the very first primary election in the South; it is also the state which issues the third vote on the calendar for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination.

Earlier this week, former President Donald Trump indicated that he may run for president again in 2024 as well; however, the former president also declared that he didn’t want to make any commitments for legal reasons.

Finally, another possible contender on the list of 2024 GOP hopefuls is Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida.

Fundraising is very important for the Republican Party at this time.

Next year, the GOP has several midterm elections coming up. These races will be vital as Republicans work to regain majority control in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Moreover, the outcome of midterms next year will very much impact the power of Congress and therefore the direction of America.

So far, things are looking hopeful for Republicans. News recently broke that the Republican National Committee managed to break new fundraising records.

$17.8 million in donations raised by the GOP National Convention

During the months of January, February, and March 2021, the Republican Party managed to raise an impressive $17.8 million in donations from supporters. Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, made a statement explaining what this means for the GOP going forward.

McDaniel explained that as a result of the impressive donations, Republicans are in a much stronger position to take on Democrat lawmakers and President Biden. Additionally, the fundraising means the GOP is able to promote America First policies, take on biased big tech, and fight for election integrity.

Of the donations raised by the RNC, small donors comprise 84% of the $17.8 million. The GOP confirms that this will significantly help their party regain the House and Senate majorities in 2022.

Getting the nation back on track

Thus far, Democrats and President Biden have worked hard to pass whatever they want, regardless of the GOP. The left did it with the American Rescue Plan; now, they want to do the same with other radical policies like H.R. 1, Biden’s massive tax hike, etc.

Getting the nation back on track cannot happen with Democrats controlling the House and the Senate while Biden controls the White House. Therefore, the GOP is working hard to take back the House and the Senate. If Republicans manage to regain even just one chamber’s majority, the dynamics in Washington will change.

For starters, Democrats will no longer have the luxury of passing bills on party vote alone. Secondly, President Biden actually will have to work with Republican lawmakers. Thus far, the Democrat president has refused multiple opportunities for meetings with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

This will undoubtedly change if McCarthy becomes House Speaker.

Leaked videos of a pyramid-shaped UFO have been taking the internet by storm. The Pentagon and the Department of Defense (DOD) confirm the videos were taken by Naval staff.  And the Pentagon says they are the subject of “Ongoing examinations” by the DOD’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force. The UAPTF was charted and set up in August.

UAPTF is promising to release a detailed June 1st report about recent sightings of UFOs. Since 2015 there have been a number of reports of unidentified aircraft lurking around various military-controlled ranges and designated airspace.

Pyramid-shaped UFO Investigated by UAPTF

New York Post reports the grainy video footage taken in 2019, off of the San Diego coast, has never before been seen. The video shows pyramid-shaped unmanned aerial vehicles buzzing at least three Navy warships during military drills. According to the ship’s logs, the video shows a UFO following a US destroyer for 90 minutes.

Video captures a  pyramid-shaped UFO flying overhead. Other photos reveal more than one additional UFO described as a sphere-shaped “metallic blimp.”

“As we have said before, to maintain operations security and to avoid disclosing information that may be useful to potential adversaries, DOD does not discuss publicly the details of either the observations or the examinations of reported incursions into our training ranges or designated airspace, including those incursions initially designated as UAP,” Pentagon spokeswoman Sue Gough says.

Some of the photos and videos of the pyramid-shaped UFO re-surfaced last week on several websites including Extraordinary Beliefs and MysteryWire.

In an interview, ex-intelligence director John Ratcliffe says “there are a lot more sightings than have been made public.” And these sightings have been “all over the world.”

Unidentified flying objects or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena sightings are at an all-time high. National UFO Reporting Center data shows more than 7,200 incidents were reported in 2020. That’s 1,000 more than reported in 2019.
