Last week, the President’s SOTU became the center of disagreement in the negotiations to end the shutdown. Pelosi decided to withdraw her earlier invitation to Trump and stated that Democrats will prevent him from delivering the SOTU in the House Chamber. The President was originally scheduled to deliver his speech on January 29.

Trump slammed Pelosi and the Democrats for their decision. He told White House reporters that he wasn’t surprised. He also stated, “It’s really a shame what’s happening with the Democrats. They’ve become radicalized.”

He eventually decided to postpone the SOTU until the shutdown is over. In a tweet, Trump said Pelosi has the “prerogative” to cancel her earlier invitation. He is not considering other locations for his speech “because there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber.”
