This news come shortly after Griner’s four year wedding anniversary with her wife Cherelle – whom she was looking forward to talking to after months of silence. Cherelle and Britney anticipated that Brittney would be behind bars for their anniversary, so they planned and pleaded with the Russian courts to allow them to at least phone each other on their special day. Somehow, the couple received the approval from the court. The phone call was set up this summer, and was to be the first time the couple has spoken to each other since Brittney’s arrest. Cherelle stayed up all night waiting for the phone call, but the phone never rang. Brittney attempted to call her wife more than ten times, but the call never went through. Apparently, the line Brittney was to call from not able to accept calls and was nonoperational on Saturdays. The couple have still not been able to see or speak to each other since Griner’s arrest.
