East Harlem apartment shooting

A deadly shooting inside a Manhattan senior housing facility has left two people dead, triggering an NYPD investigation into a violent incident that unfolded late Thursday in East Harlem.

Authorities discovered a woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s with gunshot wounds to the head inside the Second Avenue building. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, as investigators began piecing together the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.

The shooting has raised concerns about security at the residential facility, with the building's superintendent suggesting that nearby construction work may have created an opportunity for someone to gain access to the apartments.

East Harlem Apartment Shooting Leaves Two Victims Dead

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, when police received a 911 call reporting an assault at the Second Avenue building in East Harlem.

Officers responding to the call discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds to the head.

The victims were identified as a 55-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man. Both were declared dead at the scene.

Their identities have not been publicly released, and authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of their deaths.

The discovery has prompted an active investigation as police work to establish what happened inside the senior housing facility and determine who may be responsible.

Building Superintendent Raises Concerns Over Security

The building's superintendent provided additional information about the victims and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

According to the superintendent, the 66-year-old man lived in the building and had been battling cancer. The woman found alongside him was a home attendant who worked at the facility.

The superintendent also raised concerns about recent construction activity around the property, suggesting that the work may have made it easier for an individual to access the apartments.

The possibility of unauthorized access has added another dimension to the investigation, as detectives examine the building's security and the events leading up to the shooting.

However, authorities have not confirmed whether the construction work played any role in the incident.

NYPD Investigation Continues as Authorities Seek Information

The NYPD continues to investigate the fatal shooting, and officials have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the attack, including how the victims were shot and whether anyone else was involved.

The case remains open as authorities seek information that could help clarify the events inside the East Harlem residential facility.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

As detectives pursue leads, the deaths of the two residents have left unanswered questions surrounding a deadly incident inside a building intended to provide housing for older New Yorkers.
