New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, bribery, and soliciting illegal campaign donations from foreign nationals, as part of a scheme to trade political favors for personal and campaign benefits. The indictment, unsealed Thursday in Manhattan federal court, alleges Adams accepted millions in illegal contributions and lavish perks from foreign entities, particularly Turkish officials, in exchange for favorable treatment and influence within City Hall.

According to the indictment, Adams engaged in illegal activity “for nearly a decade,” receiving foreign campaign contributions that helped boost his 2021 mayoral campaign. The indictment specifically names Turkish nationals, including a Turkish government official, who allegedly provided Adams with luxury perks such as free flights on Turkish Airlines, stays at high-end hotels, and expensive meals. These benefits were allegedly part of a scheme to gain influence over Adams, with the Turkish officials seeking favorable treatment in return, including approval for the opening of the Turkish Consulate near the United Nations.
