Federal authorities have released dramatic surveillance video tied to the White House dinner shooting suspect footage, offering a tense glimpse into what prosecutors describe as a failed attempt to storm a high-profile Washington event and assassinate Donald Trump.

The footage, made public Thursday by Jeanine Pirro, the top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., captures key moments leading up to and during the incident at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. The video, which has no audio, was edited and annotated before being shared and has already been submitted as evidence in federal court.

What the Video Shows—and What It Doesn’t

According to Pirro, the footage depicts suspect Cole Tomas Allen scouting the hotel venue the night before the event, then charging through a security checkpoint during the dinner. As he passed through a metal detector, prosecutors allege he fired at a Secret Service agent.

The slowed-down video highlights four visible muzzle flashes from an agent’s firearm as shots were fired toward Allen. However, it remains unclear whether the suspect discharged his weapon after raising it at the agent—an ambiguity that has fueled growing scrutiny.

Pirro also asserted there is no indication the injured agent, who was wearing body armor, was struck by friendly fire.

Conflicting Accounts Emerge

Details surrounding the confrontation remain sharply contested. Sean Curran, director of the United States Secret Service, told Fox News that Allen was not stopped by gunfire, but instead tripped over a box used to transport a metal detector as he rushed through the checkpoint.

Curran confirmed the suspect was not hit by any of the five shots fired by the agent, stating that Allen appeared to strike his knee on the equipment and fall while being engaged.

While officials maintain that Allen fired first, that claim has been challenged by defense attorneys and independent analysis. A review of the footage cited by The Washington Post reportedly identified only four shots—all fired by the Secret Service agent—raising doubts about the government’s timeline.

Legal Battle Takes Shape

Public defenders representing Allen have pushed back against the prosecution’s version of events, noting in a letter that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated ballistic evidence is still being developed to confirm whether the agent was actually shot by the suspect.

Allen, a tutor from Torrance, California, faces serious federal charges, including attempted assassination of the president, transporting firearms to commit a felony, and unlawful discharge of a weapon during a violent act.

He has not yet entered a plea but agreed Thursday to remain in federal custody as the case proceeds.
