Iranian Flights are facing further restrictions across the region as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan prepare to discuss military support for Riyadh. Attacks are intensifying by Yemen's Houthis.

At the same time, new U.S. sanctions have prompted several neighboring countries to suspend or restrict flights operated by Iranian airlines, adding another layer of pressure on Tehran as the wider conflict continues.

The developments come as the broader Middle East conflict continues to affect aviation, shipping, energy markets and regional security. The latest measures against Iranian airlines represent a significant expansion of U.S. pressure because Washington is targeting companies in third countries that continue doing business with Iranian carriers.

Iranian Flights Face Growing Restrictions

The United Arab Emirates announced Thursday that it was suspending flights by Iranian airlines until further notice following the new U.S. sanctions. Iranian state-linked reporting also indicated that flights had been affected in Oman, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iraq.

Iraq subsequently expanded restrictions beyond Baghdad, with additional airports suspending flights to and from Iran, according to the supplied Reuters reporting.

The consequences could extend beyond airline schedules. If restrictions remain in place, Iran could become increasingly isolated from neighboring countries and face additional economic pressure. Iranian airlines have already faced years of international restrictions, and the latest sanctions threaten to make regional air travel substantially more difficult.

An Iranian official, Mohammad Mokhber, criticized regional countries for what he described as alignment with Washington and warned that restricting Iranian aviation could produce consequences for other countries in the region.

Saudi Arabia Faces Houthi Attacks

At the same time, Saudi Arabia is confronting an intensifying military challenge from Yemen's Houthis.

The Houthis said they launched dozens of missiles and drones toward Saudi targets. Saudi authorities said they intercepted six ballistic missiles. Saudi Arabia has also issued security alerts affecting areas including Mecca, Jeddah and Yanbu.

The attacks are taking place as the conflict has expanded beyond direct U.S.-Iran confrontation. Hezbollah remains involved in fighting involving Israel and Lebanon, while the Houthis have expanded their military activity in Yemen and against Saudi targets.

The conflict also has major implications for energy markets. The Houthis have disrupted shipping around the Red Sea, while restrictions involving the Strait of Hormuz have affected one of the world's most important energy corridors.

Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan Discuss Defense

Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan are preparing an urgent meeting of their military chiefs under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement.

The agreement, signed in August, provides for mutual support if one of the participating countries is attacked. Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani foreign ministers have already met under the agreement and condemned attacks against Mecca and other civilian locations.

Turkey has previously said it could help Saudi Arabia meet military and technical requirements. Reuters reported that Turkey's chief of general staff was expected to travel to Saudi Arabia to meet his Saudi and Pakistani counterparts.

The agreement's practical military implications remain an evolving issue, particularly because its implementation and domestic approval processes differ among the participating countries.

Strait of Hormuz Adds Another Layer of Risk

The fighting is also threatening global shipping and energy supplies.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. The supplied report says Iran has effectively limited tanker traffic through the waterway, while Houthi attacks have disrupted shipping near the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran had presented Washington with a proposal involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz if certain conditions were met. According to his account, the proposal called for hostilities to end across multiple fronts, followed by the reopening of the strait and further negotiations.

Meanwhile, oil markets have been closely watching developments for signs that a diplomatic arrangement could restore more normal shipping conditions.

Diplomacy Remains Possible as Regional Conflict Continues

Despite the military escalation, diplomatic efforts have not completely disappeared.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said the Houthis are responsible for their own actions, while Iranian officials have continued discussing possible arrangements with Washington. Tehran's proposal concerning the Strait of Hormuz suggests that negotiations remain possible even as regional fighting continues.

For neighboring countries, however, the combination of missile attacks, shipping disruptions, sanctions and restrictions on Iranian Flights creates a complicated security and economic environment.

The coming weeks will show whether the regional defense arrangements involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan develop into a more active military framework, and whether diplomatic proposals concerning Iran and the Strait of Hormuz can reduce tensions.
