  • Brother or Husband? Questions over Omar’s 2009 marriage to British citizen Ahmed Elmi resurface, with critics citing it as an alleged immigration scam.
  • Classified Access Under Fire: Lawmakers and former officials are pressing the DOJ to act, claiming Omar’s rhetoric and alleged history pose national security risks.

[Washington, D.C.] - Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born Democrat representing Minnesota’s 5th District, is once again at the epicenter of political and legal scrutiny as top officials and critics reignite calls for the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, FBI, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to investigate and potentially prosecute the controversial congresswoman.

This latest demand comes amid renewed accusations that Omar committed immigration fraud by allegedly marrying her biological brother in 2009 to assist his U.S. residency — an act that, if proven, could result in deportation, loss of citizenship, and criminal charges. Now, with Pam Bondi reportedly leading a more aggressive and independent Department of Justice, the pressure is mounting for the federal government to finally address what some call “one of the most flagrant immigration violations committed by a sitting member of Congress.”

🚨 The Allegation: A Fraudulent Marriage for Immigration Gain

At the center of the controversy is Omar’s second marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen. According to reports from Somali community members and widely circulated marriage records, Omar married Elmi on February 12, 2009. She later divorced him in 2011 — but not before he used the marriage to enroll at North Dakota State University and receive federal benefits, including housing. Critics allege the union was solely to fraudulently secure U.S. immigration status for Elmi, who is also widely believed within Somali-American circles to be her biological brother.

Abdihakim Osman, a Minneapolis community member, has publicly stated that Omar confided in friends her intent to get "her brother papers so he could stay in the United States." Osman, one of the first to go on record about the controversy, claims that no one knew about the wedding until the media uncovered the certificate years later.

📢 Trump’s Long-Standing Demands for Investigation

As early as 2019, President Donald Trump raised the issue. “There’s a lot of talk about the fact that she was married to her brother. I know nothing about it,” he told the press. By 2020, Trump was more direct, calling on the Justice Department to open a formal inquiry. During a rally in Ocala, Florida, he stated:

“Come on Justice, let’s go Justice, Department of Justice.”

In a climate increasingly focused on securing the integrity of immigration systems, Trump and his supporters viewed Omar’s case as emblematic of political hypocrisy and selective enforcement. “If you look at the House with Pelosi and these people, it’s like they hate Israel and they believe in Omar, who came in here and married her brother or something, came in illegally,” Trump said at the rally.

🔐 National Security Concerns

Critics argue that Omar’s access to classified information through her role in Congress makes this more than just a moral or immigration issue. If the accusations hold merit — especially the claim that she committed immigration fraud or campaign finance violations — her presence in national security briefings could constitute an alarming breach of trust.

“This isn’t about politics,” one policy analyst told USA Herald on background. “It’s about whether a sitting member of Congress committed a crime to enter or remain in the country, and whether that person currently poses a threat to national security by having access to sensitive materials.”

🪧 ‘Hands Off’ Protests Add Fuel to Fire

The flames of controversy flared again when Omar spoke at the “Hands Off!” protest in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 2025. The movement, described by organizers as a pro-democracy effort against an alleged “hostile takeover” of American government, was widely criticized by conservatives and national security observers. Omar’s participation raised new alarms.

“This isn’t a democratic protest,” said a former ICE agent who now works as a policy advisor. “It’s a baseless and dangerous conspiracy theory — one that only stokes civil unrest and radicalizes anti-government sentiment.”

Her critics now argue that her inflammatory rhetoric, combined with her unresolved past, may violate her oath of office and raise serious legal implications.

🧾 Questionable Divorce, Questionable Funds

In 2017, Omar quietly filed for a default divorce from Elmi, claiming she was unable to locate him. This came after years of speculation about their relationship. Notably, there are lingering allegations that she may have used campaign funds to pay legal expenses related to the divorce. A formal complaint was filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), but no criminal charges have been brought.

Adding fuel to the fire is the public’s memory of Omar’s initial marriage to Ahmed Hirsi — the father of her three children — prior to her marriage to Elmi. After divorcing Elmi in 2011, she married her current husband, Tim Mynett, her former political consultant.

🕵️‍♂️ Will ICE and DOJ Act?

“If this was anyone else — any non-politician — they’d already be in deportation proceedings,” said one legal analyst interviewed for this report.

That sentiment is increasingly echoed in legal and political circles, where frustration is mounting over what many perceive as a double standard for elected officials — particularly those with progressive clout and establishment protection.

President Donald Trump has been one of the most vocal proponents of holding Rep. Ilhan Omar accountable, and has repeatedly called for the Department of Justice to open a formal investigation into Omar.

Now, with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi at the helm of a reinvigorated DOJ, the political winds may finally be shifting toward action. The recent formal probe into New York Attorney General Letitia James by the FBI — over alleged real estate and mortgage fraud — has served as a seismic signal that no officeholder, regardless of political affiliation, is immune from scrutiny under this administration.

According to high-level sources, Bondi’s DOJ is already reviewing a shortlist of cases involving public officials suspected of abuse of power, fraud, and national security violations. Multiple insiders have indicated that Omar’s file is one of the most prominent among them — and that she is widely predicted to be the next major government official formally implicated in criminal wrongdoing.

Such developments have triggered a wave of concern over the national security implications of Omar’s continued access to classified materials. “We’re not just talking about immigration fraud anymore,” a former counterintelligence analyst told USA Herald. “If the allegations are true, and she obtained citizenship or office under false pretenses, that raises serious questions about her loyalty, her vetting, and whether any foreign interests could exploit her position.”

What’s clear is this: the public appetite for answers is growing, and Omar’s long-dismissed controversies may finally be catching up with her. The question is no longer whether federal law enforcement agencies should act — but when.

⚖️ Omar’s Response: Defiance and Denial

Omar has dismissed the allegations as “absurd and offensive,” she said in response to a viral 2025 post resurfacing the marriage certificate.

So far, no formal investigation has been confirmed by any federal agency. But insiders say that may soon change.
