Despite the unexpected tour boat capsizing, seven individuals aboard were successfully transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital.

All are reportedly in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries, according to hospital spokesperson Patricia Kingston-Brandt, highlighting the efficacy of the swift emergency response.

Ensuring seamless rescue operations, surrounding streets were closed off to grant easier access for rescue crews. In a testament to inter-agency cooperation, the police and fire officials were instrumental in the rescue of all 36 passengers, as reported by WBEN News Radio.

The ill-fated vessel was a part of the Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Tour, a popular local attraction roughly 20 miles east of Niagara Falls near the US-Canada border.

Before the unfortunate tour boat capsizing, passengers were promised an awe-inspiring journey.

The tour offers a unique underground boat ride along the Erie Canal, touted on its website as "both ‘peaceful and eerie’ as the boat glides through the lifeless water, illuminated only by sporadically placed electric lights.”

The tour ventures through the cave that maintains a year-round temperature of 55 degrees and water levels typically ranging between two and four feet.

A captivating slice of civil engineering history, the cave is part of the Erie Canal, a celebrated 1825 landmark that provides a waterway link between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes.

Investigation Underway

The police report that the boat capsized just before 11:30 a.m. However, the exact number of passengers aboard remains unclear due to an ongoing investigation.

Initial estimates suggest around 30 people were onboard when the tour boat capsized.
