USA Herald – A New Mexico judge has approved the release of actor and television director Timothy Busfield from jail as he awaits trial on child sex abuse charges, setting strict conditions intended to limit contact with potential witnesses and minors.

During a detention hearing in Albuquerque on Tuesday, a state district court judge ruled that Busfield may be released on his own recognizance while the case proceeds. The decision allows the Emmy Award-winning actor to leave New Mexico and return to his home, provided he remains under supervision by pretrial services.

As part of the release order, Busfield is barred from possessing firearms or illegal substances and is prohibited from any contact with the alleged victims. Authorities say monitoring will be handled by a pretrial supervision office based in Albuquerque.

Busfield was arrested earlier this month following an investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct involving minors during his work on a television production filmed in New Mexico. Prosecutors allege the incidents occurred while he was serving in a directing role on set.

At an earlier court appearance, Busfield was ordered held without bond. He has publicly denied the allegations, describing them as false prior to turning himself in to authorities.

Court records indicate that law enforcement is investigating claims involving two siblings who were minors at the time of the alleged incidents. Prosecutors say the allegations are supported by medical and therapeutic evaluations, while also pointing to concerns raised by witnesses who reportedly fear retaliation or professional consequences.

Defense attorneys have pushed back, arguing the accusations surfaced after the minors were removed from the production, suggesting a possible retaliatory motive. The defense has also cited prior internal reviews by the production company that reportedly found no wrongdoing.
