Biotech IPOs have been arriving in rapid succession lately, almost like a series of waves breaking one after another along the same stretch of shoreline. San Diego-based ADARx Pharmaceuticals just caught its own wave, beginning public trading Friday after raising $446 million in its initial public offering, guided by Cooley LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP.

Pricing Above Expectations

The company sold 26.3 million shares at $17 apiece, landing at the high end of its marketed $15 to $17 range, according to a Friday statement. Notably, ADARx originally told the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission it planned to offer just 21.9 million shares — meaning the final offering expanded meaningfully beyond initial expectations, a signal of stronger-than-anticipated investor demand.

A Company Betting on RNA Science

ADARx Pharmaceuticals, backed by health-focused private investor OrbiMed, is developing RNA therapies aimed at treating a range of diseases, according to an SEC filing. The company's underlying approach centers on precisely targeting the biological drivers behind specific illnesses at the genetic level.

"We have developed technology designed to control the expression of specific disease drivers with highly selective RNA-targeted therapies with the goal of delivering life-changing treatments for patients with unmet medical needs," the company said in its statement. It further described its focus: "ADARx is focused on advancing and expanding a deep pipeline of highly potent, durable and selective RNA-targeted therapeutic candidates, developing product candidates for the treatment of complement-mediated, genetic, cardiovascular, thrombosis, central nervous system and metabolic (obesity) diseases" — a sprawling list suggesting the company isn't betting on a single disease area, but rather a broad technological platform applicable across many.

Where the Money Will Go

ADARx told regulators it intends to use proceeds from its public debut to advance development of its existing drug candidates, along with funding research, working capital and other general corporate purposes — the standard playbook for a clinical-stage biotech seeking to extend its development runway.

Trading Begins on the Nasdaq

The company began trading on the Nasdaq Friday under the ticker symbol ADRX, with the offering expected to formally close Monday.

Part of a Broader Biotech IPO Wave

ADARx's public debut arrives amid a broader surge of biotechnology companies entering public markets in recent weeks. Electra Therapeutics, which develops antibodies for immune diseases and cancer, began trading Sept. 18 after raising $350 million in an upsized offering. Before that, Latigo Biotherapeutics went public after raising approximately $346 million, BlossomHill Therapeutics debuted following an upsized offering worth around $150 million, Braveheart Bio hit public markets after pricing an upsized $383 million IPO, and Attovia Therapeutics began trading after raising $289 million.

More Companies Lining Up Behind Them

Adding further momentum to this pipeline, City Therapeutics and Iambic Therapeutics both filed IPO plans with U.S. regulators this week — evidence that this wave of biotech listings shows little sign of slowing down anytime soon.
