Bank of America Epstein Lawsuit $72.5M Settlement Reaches Turning Point in Federal Court

Bank of America Epstein lawsuit $72.5M settlement

In a case that continues to cast long shadows over Wall Street, the Bank of America Epstein lawsuit $72.5M settlement marks another major chapter in the legal reckoning tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to a federal court filing in New York on Friday evening, Bank of America has agreed to pay $72.5 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging the bank enabled Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.

Settlement Adds to Growing List of Bank Payouts

The agreement—pending approval by U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan—does not include any admission of wrongdoing by the bank. Such approvals are typically granted, paving the way for compensation to victims.

This settlement becomes the fourth involving a major financial institution accused of facilitating or failing to prevent Epstein’s activities while he was a client.

Under the proposed terms, compensation would extend to women who were sexually abused or trafficked by Epstein—or individuals connected to his network—between June 30, 2008, and July 6, 2019. Court documents indicate that at least 60 women are known to have been victimized during that period.

Bank Denies Allegations While Seeking Closure

In a statement, a Bank of America spokesperson reiterated the institution’s stance, emphasizing that it “did not facilitate sex trafficking crimes,” while acknowledging that the settlement allows all parties to move forward and offers closure to plaintiffs.

The lawsuit, filed in October 2025, was handled by law firms Boies Schiller Flexner and Edwards Henderson, both of which have been contacted for comment.

A Pattern of High-Profile Settlements

The financial sector has faced mounting legal pressure over Epstein-related claims. In June 2023, JPMorgan Chase agreed to pay $290 million to victims in a similar case. Just one month earlier, Deutsche Bank settled for $75 million.

Later that year, JPMorgan also reached a separate $75 million agreement with the U.S. Virgin Islands government, which accused the bank of benefiting from Epstein’s trafficking enterprise tied to his private island.

Unlike Bank of America and JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank acknowledged shortcomings at the time, admitting failures in onboarding Epstein as a client in 2013.

Allegations Detail Years of Abuse

The lead plaintiff in the Bank of America case, identified as Jane Doe, is a Russian national who said she met Epstein in 2011. The lawsuit alleges she was abused on at least 100 occasions through 2019, including forced sexual acts and exploitation involving others.

Court filings claim that in 2013, Jane Doe was directed by Epstein’s accountant, Richard Kahn, and an immigration attorney to open a Bank of America account as part of an alleged scheme to mislead immigration authorities.

The complaint also references billionaire financier Leon Black, who reportedly paid Epstein $170 million for purported tax and estate planning advice through a Bank of America account. In 2023, Black agreed to pay $62.5 million to the U.S. Virgin Islands, which in turn released him from further liability related to Epstein.

Claims of Facilitating a Hidden Network

At the heart of the case lies a central allegation: that Bank of America provided financial services—such as wire transfers and withdrawals—that helped Epstein evade regulatory scrutiny and expand his operations.

Plaintiffs argue this assistance enabled the trafficking network to grow, delaying detection by authorities and increasing the scale of harm inflicted on victims.

The bank has firmly rejected those claims, maintaining it neither supported nor facilitated Epstein’s activities and did not obstruct investigations.

A Case Rooted in a Dark Legacy

Epstein, 66, died by suicide in a Manhattan federal jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges. His death came years after a controversial 2008 Florida conviction, where he pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor and served 13 months in custody.

The Bank of America Epstein lawsuit $72.5M settlement now stands as another step in a broader legal effort to address the far-reaching consequences of Epstein’s crimes—an effort that continues to ripple across institutions once connected to his orbit.
