California has some of the most uncompromising COVID restrictions and mandates on the books. A state lawmaker even drafted a bill that would require kids in K-12 schools to have COVID vaccines.

Meanwhile, mask mandates are back into effect. In Los Angeles County, people are required to show COVID vaccine papers if they want to go inside restaurants; this is also mandatory to exercise in fitness centers or otherwise access most indoor, public environments.

California is furthermore mandating healthcare workers to get COVID booster shots; just as the state mandated these frontline employees to receive the original COVID vaccines.

In light of these unyielding measures, people might assume California leaders practice what they preach. However, this is far from the case.

In fact, a series of California Democrats are now under fire for violating their own COVID rules at a weekend football game.

Not a good look for California Democrats

Over the weekend, California Governor Gavin Newsom attended the NFC Championship Game, as did San Francisco Mayor London Breed and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

There's nothing inherently wrong about this; however, the backlash against these Democrats stems from their decisions to violate the very same face mask mandates they've put into effect for Californians.

Newsom, Breed, and Garcetti had a great time at the football game with no face coverings on. Meanwhile, mask mandates are in effect for children and other residents of the Golden State.

The Los Angeles Times blasted the state's governor and the two cities' mayors.

To be clear, the Los Angeles Times supports despotic mandates; nevertheless, the publication also argued California Democrats opened the door to claims of hypocrisy upon violating their own rules.

The Times went on to claim that when the leaders of California don't abide by their own mandates, it leads to everyone else questioning why they should follow COVID rules.

Response from Governor Newsom

In the wake of the controversy, Newsom has come out with remarks about violating his own mask edict.

According to the California governor, he conducted himself in a "judicious" fashion during the Sunday football game. Newsom then went on to claim he briefly unmasked for a photo with Magic Johnson and then put his mask back on.

However, various viral images of Newsom's time at the NFC Championship Game dispute his claims of only going maskless for a brief moment. Finally, the leftist governor voiced his "encouragement" for folks to continue wearing face coverings.
