A routine weekend at Charlotte Douglas International Airport turned into a felony arrest scene after authorities took a Cary man into custody in connection with a suspected fraud scheme that allegedly targeted a vulnerable Jones County family. The case, described by investigators as a calculated scam involving false claims of compromised bank accounts, has now led to multiple serious criminal charges.

Airport Arrest Ends Investigation

Christopher Aaron Murray, 27, of Cary, was arrested Sunday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport following an investigation into what authorities say was a fraud scheme originating in Jones County, according to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Officials say the arrest marked the culmination of a developing case that centered on deceptive communications and financial manipulation.

Alleged Scam Targeted Jones County Family

Murray is accused of specifically targeting a family in Jones County by contacting victims and claiming their bank accounts had been compromised. According to investigators, he then demanded payment to resolve the alleged issue.

Authorities allege the scheme relied on fear and urgency, pressuring victims into believing immediate financial action was necessary to protect their accounts.

Serious Felony Charges Filed

Following his arrest, Murray was charged with felony conspiracy, obtaining property by false pretenses, exploitation of a disabled or elderly person in a position of trust, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.

The combination of charges reflects the seriousness of the allegations, which involve both financial fraud and alleged abuse of trust.

Bond and Upcoming Court Date

Murray was booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center after his arrest. He later posted a $7,500 secured bond and was released early Monday morning.

He is expected to appear in Jones County court on May 15 as the case moves forward.
