An organization representing thousands of Christian churches and millions of churchgoers across the United States called for the withdrawal of the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

The National Council of Christian Churches, the largest ecumenical organization in the nation with membership of around 45 million churchgoers mostly from Protestant and Eastern Orthodox denominations, believe that “Kavanaugh disqualified himself” to become the next associate justice to the Supreme Court.

In a statement, the organization cited several reasons to support its demand that the Supreme Court nominee “must step aside immediately.”

National Council of Churches believe that Kavanaugh “cannot be an impartial justice”

“Judge Kavanaugh exhibited extreme partisan bias and disrespect towards certain members of the committee and thereby demonstrated that he possesses neither the temperament nor the character essential for a member of the highest court in our nation,” according to the National Council of Christian Churches.

In addition, the organization alleged that Kavanaugh made “several “misstatements and “outright falsehoods” in his testimony.

Furthermore, the National Council of Christian Churches said the Supreme Court nominee’s judicial and political record on certain civil rights issues were “troubling.”

“Judge Kavanaugh’s extensive judicial and political record is troubling with regard to issues of voting rights, racial and gender justice, health care, the rights of people with disabilities, and environmental protections. This leads us to believe that he cannot be an impartial justice in cases that are sure to come before him at the Court,” the organization wrote.

In a tweet, Jack Jenkins, a reporter for the Religious News Service, said the National Council of Churches is also “deeply disturbed by the multiple allegations of sexual assault” against Kavanaugh. The organization is calling for a “full and unhindered investigation of these accusations.”

Kavanaugh will never quit

During his recent testimony, Kavanaugh vowed that he will not step aside. He said, “I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process. You’ve tried hard. You’ve given it your all. No one can question your effort. But your well- coordinated and well-funded effort to destroy my good name and destroy my family will not drive me out. The vile threats of violence against my family will not drive me out. You may defeat me in the final vote, but you will never get me to quit, never.”
