Over the past several years, bipartisanship in this country has become increasingly harder to come upon. Political tribalism is intensifying as more people in both major political parties view the opposing side as the enemy.
This may make for interesting political attack ads. Yet when it comes to taking care of business in Congress, extreme political tribalism is often a prerequisite for gridlock.
Of course, one way of getting around this is via supermajorities. Having one party simultaneously controlling both congressional chambers and the White House also helps.
Nevertheless, when it comes to comparing Democrats’ legislative effectiveness with that of Republicans, most Americans feel that Democrats are more capable.

A recent poll from Monmouth University sheds some interesting light on how everyday folks view the US political system. As things currently stand, 53% of the country agrees that Democrats have been more successful in passing bills during periods when they control the House of Representatives.
