Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), revealed on X Monday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated $59 million to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants. According to Musk, this is a violation of federal law. And it also violates President Donald Trump’s executive orders.

On his first day back in office, President Trump signed an executive order temporarily suspending refugee resettlement and freezing federal grants and loans pending government spending review.

Although the courts later blocked the freeze, the administration has remained committed to stricter immigration policies and fiscal accountability.

Musk leads the DOGE, a temporary task force conducting a comprehensive audit of government spending. To comply with Trump’s executive orders, the agency is attempting to identify and eliminate fraud and wasteful federal spending.

“The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.”

Public Outrage Over FEMA Spending

Musk emphasized, “That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals!” And efforts are underway to recover the misused funds saying “A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds.”
