What Consumers Should Know

  • Goldman Sachs Bank USA faces allegations that its consumer credit disclosures violated federal lending law.
  • Federal regulators previously found Goldman Sachs violated consumer protections involving Apple Card accounts.
  • The case raises questions about whether the alleged disclosure failures affected other borrowers.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Goldman Sachs Bank USA is facing a new federal lawsuit challenging its compliance with consumer lending disclosure requirements, raising questions about whether borrowers received the information necessary to understand the true cost of credit.

The lawsuit, McGreevey v. Goldman Sachs Bank USA, was filed Friday, November 6, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, case number 2:26-cv-08514.

According to the complaint, the litigation alleges violations of the federal Truth in Lending Act (TILA), which requires lenders to provide clear and accurate information concerning consumer credit terms.

The lawsuit arrives at an interesting time for Goldman Sachs—and the bank's history of consumer lending compliance deserves closer examination.

In October 2024, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau found that Goldman Sachs violated TILA and Regulation Z through its handling of Apple Card billing disputes, including inadequate investigations, improper dispute processing and failures to provide required notices.

Those violations involved consumer billing protections rather than necessarily the same disclosures challenged in McGreevey. The two matters should not be confused.

Still, they raise a legitimate question about the bank's consumer compliance controls.

Under Regulation Z, applicable lenders must disclose important borrowing terms, including annual percentage rates and finance charges. Depending on the credit product, additional requirements govern fees, repayment obligations and other conditions.

These disclosures matter because even relatively small errors can affect a borrower's ability to compare financing offers or evaluate repayment costs.

But proving a TILA violation involves more than identifying confusing contractual language. Courts examine which disclosures were legally required, whether the creditor complied, and whether statutory tolerances, exemptions or other defenses apply.

Another development makes the timing noteworthy.

In January 2026, Goldman Sachs announced an agreement to transition its Apple Card program, representing more than $20 billion in credit card balances, to JPMorgan Chase. The transition was expected to take approximately 24 months.

And on the very day McGreevey was filed, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an unrelated Goldman Sachs dispute involving bankruptcy proceedings and arbitration rights.

These are separate cases, with different legal questions. Together, however, they illustrate the continuing litigation exposure surrounding the bank's consumer credit operations.

For McGreevey, the most important evidence will likely be the actual loan or credit documents, the disclosures provided to the plaintiff, and any records establishing whether the disputed practices extended to other consumers.

Goldman Sachs has not been found liable in this new case.

The central question remains straightforward: Did the bank provide consumers the borrowing information federal law requires—or did its disclosures fall short?

That is what the litigation must establish.
