Tay Keith, the Grammy-nominated music producer behind some of the biggest hip-hop and pop hits of the past decade, has been found dead in his Nashville apartment at the age of 29.

Nashville police said officers conducted a welfare check and discovered Keith’s body, with no signs of foul play. An autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of death.

Born Brytavious Chambers in Memphis, Keith rose to prominence with his distinctive, hard-hitting production style that helped define modern trap and hip-hop. He earned his first Grammy nomination in 2019 for co-producing Travis Scott’s massive hit “Sicko Mode.” He received a second nod in 2024 for Drake and 21 Savage’s “Rich Flex.”

His impressive résumé includes work with Drake, Travis Scott, Eminem, Beyoncé, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, J. Cole, Cardi B, and many others. Keith played a major role in launching Sexyy Red’s mainstream success with tracks like “Pound Town” and “Get It Sexyy,” the latter recently featured on the HBO series Euphoria.

Last year, he was named to Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 Music list. Friends and collaborators remembered him as a dedicated artist who stayed connected to his Memphis roots.

BlocBoy JB, who knew Keith since they were teenagers, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram, sharing phone logs showing how frequently they spoke. UK rapper AJ Tracey called him “a legend of the game” and credited him with significantly impacting his career.
