A quiet Saturday morning shattered into chaos as a Chicago hospital Shooting unfolded at Swedish Hospital, leaving two police officers wounded and a neighborhood on edge.

The violence erupted swiftly—like a lightning strike in a place meant for healing—forcing an immediate and intense law enforcement response.

Gunman Opens Fire, Officers Injured

According to Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th Ward), the shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. at the hospital located at 5140 N. California Ave.

Multiple shots rang out, and two Chicago police officers were struck. One of the officers remains in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the encounter.

Law enforcement sources revealed a chilling detail: the suspect allegedly disarmed one of the officers before opening fire.

Authorities have not yet released official details regarding the extent of the officers’ injuries.

Suspect Flees, Barricades in Lincoln Square

After the shooting, the suspect fled the hospital and disappeared into the nearby Lincoln Square neighborhood.

Like a shadow slipping between buildings, he entered a residence and barricaded himself inside, prompting a rapid tactical response.

By approximately 12:10 p.m., officers had taken the suspect into custody, bringing a tense and fast-moving situation under control.

Witnesses Describe Swift Police Response

Nearby resident David Stevens, 22, said he was at home on Foster Avenue when he noticed a surge of police activity.

Squad cars raced toward the hospital, and within moments, officers began sealing off surrounding streets.

Curious onlookers gathered near California and Foster avenues, watching as tactical units moved in and out of the hospital grounds.

“I feel sorry for the police officers,” Stevens said. “I hope they and their families are OK.”
