Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter and a prominent figure in the tech industry, has announced his departure from Bluesky. Apparently, he deleted his account on the decentralized social networking project some time ago.

The news of his exit was shared by Dorsey himself on X, a platform where he has been increasingly active.  Dorsey's one word statement was "no" in response to a user query about his Bluesky board membership.

The company publicly confirmed his departure on Sunday posting, “We sincerely thank Jack for his help funding and initiating the Bluesky project. Today, Bluesky is thriving as an open-source social network running on atproto, the decentralized protocol we have built.”

Later adding, “With Jack’s departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!”

Bluesky, started as a project within Twitter in 2019.  Dorsey took the social network independent claiming it empowers users and offers a decentralized experience.

The implications of Dorsey’s departure has sparked speculation within the tech community. 

Bluesky, though not yet publicly available, has garnered significant attention as a potential alternative to mainstream social media platforms like Twitter. 

The platform, still in a closed beta phase, has become coveted among users, with invite codes reportedly fetching high prices on resale markets.

Despite the fact that Dorsey's name still appears on the company website he is no longer on the Bluesky Board. He seems to have no active involvement with the project for several months. The leadership role will remain with Jay Graber, who has served as CEO since 2021.

Dorsey's relationship with X, since the Elon Musk purchase, has been subject to speculation. 

While he had previously expressed skepticism towards the platform, his recent activity suggests a renewed interest.

On Saturday, Dorsey posted on X, “don’t depend on corporations to grant you rights. defend them yourself using freedom technology. (you’re on one).”

As Bluesky prepares for its public launch after nearly a year of invite-only testing, the departure of Jack Dorsey raises questions about the project's future direction and the internal dynamics of the company.
