The FBI Director went on Sunday Morning Futures and dropped what may be the biggest law enforcement statement of the year. Comey is already indicted. Patel says he won't be the only one. Here's everything you need to know — including the full legal backstory the other outlets aren't giving you.

This morning, FBI Director Kash Patel sat down with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures and made a statement that is going to reverberate through Washington for weeks. He didn't hedge. He didn't speak in careful legal language designed to say nothing. He looked into the camera and said what a lot of Americans have been waiting to hear — arrests are coming, and Comey is just the beginning.

FOX NEWS · SUNDAY MORNING FUTURES

FBI Director Kash Patel — April 19, 2026

"We have found all this information. We are working with our Department of Justice partners and I am never going to let this go. They not only have personally attacked the presidency of the United States and President Trump, but they tried to thwart our elections and rig the entire system. We've got all the evidence. I can announce on your show that we've got all the information we need. We're working with our prosecutors at the Department of Justice and their Attorney General Todd Blanche and we are going to be making arrests — and it's coming — and I promise you, it's coming soon."

That's not a press release. That's not a carefully worded statement crafted by a communications team. That is the sitting Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation making a public, on-the-record promise of criminal accountability to the American people. On live television. On a Sunday morning.

Let that sink in.

What Patel is actually talking about — the full picture

To understand why this statement is so significant, you need the full context — and most of the coverage this morning is leaving out the most important details.

James Comey is not a hypothetical target. He has already been indicted. On September 25, 2025, a federal grand jury charged the former FBI Director with two criminal counts: making false statements and obstructing a congressional proceeding during a 2020 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Comey pleaded not guilty on October 8, 2025.

But here's where the story gets complicated — and where Patel's statement today becomes even more consequential. The original indictment was dismissed in November 2025 when a federal judge ruled that the prosecutor who brought the charges, Lindsey Halligan, had been unlawfully appointed. The DOJ appealed that dismissal in December 2025, and the case is now before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Attorney General Todd Blanche has signaled the department intends to re-seek charges through a new grand jury if the appeal fails.

"Today's indictment reflects this Department of Justice's commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case."

— Attorney General Pamela Bondi, September 25, 2025

That is the legal battlefield Patel is describing when he says "it's coming soon." He and AG Blanche are, by his own account, actively coordinating on the next moves — and this morning, he made clear on national television that Comey will not be the only name on that list.

The Comey case — a timeline of what's happened

Sept. 25, 2025

Federal grand jury indicts Comey on two counts: false statements and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. AG Bondi and Director Patel announce charges publicly. Indicted

Oct. 8, 2025

Comey arraigned in federal court in Virginia. Pleads not guilty. Trial set for January 5, 2026.

Nov. 24, 2025

Federal judge dismisses the indictment, ruling that prosecutor Lindsey Halligan was unlawfully appointed — her appointment violated federal vacancy laws. Dismissed

Dec. 2025

DOJ appeals the dismissal to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Signals intent to re-indict through a new grand jury if needed. On Appeal

April 19, 2026

Patel appears on Fox News, announces arrests are coming, confirms coordination with AG Blanche, and states Comey will not be the only target facing criminal consequences.

Who else is Patel talking about?

Patel explicitly stated this morning that Comey is "not going to be the only one facing criminal consequences." He did not name additional targets by name — and as FBI Director, he likely cannot do that publicly while investigations are active. But his language — people who "tried to thwart our elections and rig the entire system" — points directly to the broader universe of officials involved in the FISA abuse investigations, the Russia probe, and the intelligence community actions during Trump's first term.

Patel has a long and specific history on this front. He was the primary author of the 2018 Nunes memo, which alleged FBI abuses of the FISA surveillance system targeting the Trump campaign. He has spent years building the evidentiary case that the institutions of the federal government were, in his view, weaponized against a sitting and then former president. This morning was not a new position — it was a progress report, delivered live, with the weight of the FBI Director's office behind it.

The context Patel's critics want you to ignore

To be thorough — because you deserve the full picture — there is a serious legal and political debate around these prosecutions. Comey's defense team, along with multiple former federal judges and former U.S. attorneys who filed amicus briefs, have argued this is a vindictive prosecution driven by political motivation rather than evidence. The career DOJ prosecutors who originally reviewed the Comey case declined to bring charges. A federal judge threw out the indictment. The legal process here has been contested at every step.

That context doesn't make Patel's statement less newsworthy. It makes it more so. We are watching, in real time, a historic confrontation between an administration that believes the justice system was weaponized against it and a legal establishment pushing back on what it sees as politically motivated prosecution. Both of those things can be simultaneously true, and both of those things have enormous consequences for every American, regardless of party.

What Kash Patel said this morning on national television was not a talking point. It was a promise. "I promise you; it's coming soon." Those are his words. He said them as FBI Director, in coordination with the Attorney General of the United States, on the record.

The Comey case is already in the legal system. The appeal is active. A new grand jury is a realistic possibility. And by Patel's own public account this morning, Comey is not the end of the list — he is the beginning of it.

We will be here covering every development as it unfolds. This story is moving fast. Stay with us.
