Legal Nightmare: Inside the Explosive Feud Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni

Legal Nightmare

The once-promising collaboration between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni on the film It Ends with Us has devolved into a complex legal battle. It is a legal nightmare come true marked by allegations of sexual harassment, defamation, and retaliatory smear campaigns.

The dispute has not only strained professional relationships but also led to significant fallout throughout the entertainment industry.

And So, It Begins

In December 2024, Blake Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, accusing her co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment during the filming of It Ends with Us.

She alleged that Baldoni engaged in inappropriate behavior, including entering her trailer uninvited and making suggestive comments. Lively also claimed that after voicing her concerns, Baldoni and his associates orchestrated a smear campaign to tarnish her reputation.

Escalation and Counterclaims

Following Lively's complaint, The New York Times published an investigation detailing the alleged retaliatory actions taken against her.

In response, Baldoni filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against the publication, asserting that the article misrepresented communications and relied heavily on Lively's narrative.

Subsequently, on January 16, 2025, Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist Leslie Sloane.

The suit accused them of defamation, civil extortion, and interference with contractual relations. Baldoni claimed that Lively and Reynolds attempted to take over the film's production and, upon failing, initiated a campaign to destroy his reputation.

Industry Repercussions and Legal Nightmare

The legal turmoil had immediate professional consequences. Baldoni was dropped by his talent agency, William Morris Endeavor, shortly after the allegations surfaced.

Additionally, Liz Plank, co-host of Baldoni's Man Enough podcast, announced her departure, expressing support for individuals who speak out against injustice.

In a significant development, Baldoni's Wayfarer Foundation, co-founded with Steve Sarowitz, announced its closure in May 2025. While the foundation cited undisclosed reasons, the timing coincided with the ongoing legal disputes.

Media Engagement

Blake Lively addressed the situation publicly during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, describing the past year as filled with "highest highs and lowest lows." She emphasized the importance of speaking out against misconduct, stating, "Fear keeps us silent."

Baldoni's legal team released behind-the-scenes footage from the film, aiming to refute Lively's claims. However, Lively's attorneys argued that the video corroborated her allegations, highlighting moments of discomfort and unsolicited advances.
