In a decisive move following intensive investigation, Loveland Police Department officials announced the arrest of Cooper Jo Frederick on Thursday, March 13, 2025, stemming from his alleged involvement in a dangerous and highly publicized arson attack targeting the local Tesla dealership.

The incident occurred late at night on March 7, 2025, at the Tesla dealership located at 1690 Loveland Avenue. According to eyewitness accounts and initial police reports, Frederick allegedly ignited and hurled an incendiary device between two parked Tesla vehicles, triggering a fire that posed a serious threat to several people who were inside the dealership cleaning at the time. Loveland police officers arrived promptly at the scene and were instrumental in containing and extinguishing the blaze before it could escalate, safeguarding both human life and further loss of property.

In addition to the incendiary attack, investigators also reported significant damage caused by rocks thrown at the dealership's structure and vehicles, resulting in damages estimated between $5,000 and $20,000. The extensive nature of the attack raised immediate concerns about potential motives and whether it was an isolated incident or part of a broader criminal pattern.

Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran praised the diligent efforts of his team, “The Loveland Police Department is incredibly thankful for the work of our Criminal Investigations” particularly emphasizing the collaborative role of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Cooper Jo Frederick is now facing multiple felony charges, including:

  • Explosives or Incendiary Devices Use During Felony, a Class 2 felony carrying 8-24 years in prison.
  • Possession of Explosives or Incendiary Device, a Class 5 felony, punishable by 1-3 years.
  • Second-Degree Arson (Business), a Class 5 felony, punishable by 1-3 years.
  • Criminal Mischief causing damages between $5,000 and $20,000, a Class 5 felony, punishable by 1-3 years.
  • Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony, a Class 6 felony, punishable by up to 18 months in prison.

Legal analysts indicate that if Frederick's sentences are ordered consecutively, he could face up to 34.5 years in state prison, highlighting the severity with which Colorado law treats crimes involving explosives and potential threats to public safety.

Given the nature of Frederick’s alleged crimes, the community response has been swift, with local residents expressing both relief at the arrest and ongoing concern regarding public safety. Legal experts have emphasized that the use of explosives in criminal acts significantly escalates the severity of penalties, reinforcing the law's stance against threats to community safety and well-being.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet disclosed a potential motive behind Frederick's alleged actions, stating that the investigation remains active and ongoing. They have encouraged community members to remain vigilant and to report any information related to this incident or Frederick’s background by calling the Loveland Police Department’s tip line or the Larimer County Crime Stoppers.
