Maryland Judge Shot Dead

In a shocking and tragic incident, Maryland Circuit Court Judge Andrew Wilkinson met a violent end on Thursday night. He was fatally shot in the driveway of his Hagerstown home, and authorities suspect a disgruntled parent to be behind the brutal attack.

Custody Battle Turns Deadly

Earlier in the day, Judge Wilkinson presided over a heart-wrenching divorce hearing where custody of Pedro Argote's children was awarded to his partner. This decision appears to have triggered a targeted attack on the judge. The Washington County Sheriff's Office, headed by Sheriff Brian K. Albert, is now leading the intense manhunt for Argote, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Maryland Judge Shot Dead: The Suspect at Large

Sheriff Albert revealed, "This was a targeted attack on Judge Wilkinson. We've identified Pedro Argote, 49, of Frederick, Maryland, as a suspect in this case. Argote is not in custody, and if anyone has information on his whereabouts, we ask that they immediately contact local law enforcement."

Argote may be driving a silver 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL450, bearing Maryland registration plates 4EH0408. He stands at 5'7" and weighs 130 lbs with black hair and brown eyes, according to the sheriff's office.

Heightened Security Measures

In the wake of this shocking incident, the sheriff's office took immediate precautionary measures by deploying officers and state troopers to the homes of local judges overnight. However, Sheriff Albert emphasized that there is no current threat to other judges in the county or the state.

Joint Efforts for Justice

The Maryland judiciary issued a statement in response to the tragic loss of Judge Wilkinson, pledging to collaborate with law enforcement to resolve the matter and ensure the safety of judges, staff, and visitors. Notably, the courts remain open despite the grim circumstances.

"The Maryland Judiciary mourns the tragic death of Judge Andrew Wilkinson. As we grieve his loss, we ask that you keep the Wilkinson family in your prayers and please respect their privacy," the judiciary said.

Maryland Judge Shot Dead:  Tragic Discovery

Authorities were alerted to the gruesome incident around 8 p.m. on Thursday when they received a distress call from Judge Wilkinson's residence on Olde Waterford Road in Hagerstown. Upon arrival, they found the judge in the driveway, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Judge Wilkinson was promptly transported to Meritus Medical Center but, tragically, succumbed to his injuries. At the time of the attack, his wife and son were inside the family home, adding to the shock and distress surrounding this horrific event.

A Life of Service Cut Short

Judge Andrew Wilkinson, aged 52, had been serving as a judge on the Washington County Circuit Court in the Fourth Judicial Circuit since January 2020. His professional journey included a stint as an assistant county attorney in Washington County from 2006 to 2012.

Born in Agana, Guam, in 1971, Judge Wilkinson was a distinguished scholar, graduating from the University of North Carolina with a bachelor's degree in economics and earning his law degree from the Emory University School of Law in 1997. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar and served as a law clerk in the Washington County Circuit Court until 1998.

The shocking murder of Judge Wilkinson has sent shockwaves through the Maryland legal community, leaving many perplexed and heartbroken as they grapple with the loss of a respected jurist. The hunt for Pedro Argote continues, and the state remains on edge as authorities strive to bring justice to this tragedy.
