Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has tragically passed away at the age of 29, his sports agency confirmed on Tuesday. No cause of death has been released.

Priority Sports issued a deeply emotional statement, saying the organization is “beyond devastated” by the loss of a man they described as “the gentlest soul” who was always the first to support his friends and family.

“He was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched. Our hearts are so broken.”

According to reports, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical emergency at a home in the San Fernando Valley shortly after 5 p.m. local time. Clarke was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Bright Career Cut Short

Clarke enjoyed a standout college career at San Jose State and Gonzaga before being selected 21st overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2019 NBA Draft. He quickly became a fan favorite in Memphis after being traded there, earning NBA All-Rookie honors in his first season. He signed a lucrative four-year extension with the Grizzlies in 2022, though injuries — including a torn Achilles in 2023 and knee surgery — limited him in recent years.

The Grizzlies released a heartfelt statement calling Clarke “an outstanding teammate and an even better person” whose positive impact on the organization and Memphis community would never be forgotten.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also paid tribute, saying Clarke was “a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit.”
