A Michigan man faces a potential life sentence after federal authorities uncovered a disturbing plot to coerce and blackmail a minor.
A 37 year old resident of New Boston, Michigan, has officially pleaded guilty to a serious federal charge involving the attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. The plea, entered on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, marks a significant development in a chilling investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Michael David Bulanda appeared in federal court to admit his role in a scheme that federal prosecutors describe as both calculated and predatory. According to the facts presented during the proceedings, the investigation began when law enforcement officials identified patterns of online exploitation that led them directly to Bulanda.
The Details of the Scheme
The gravity of the situation became clear as prosecutors outlined the evidence gathered against Bulanda. Authorities revealed that he had obtained at least one nude image of a minor victim. Rather than deleting the material, Bulanda allegedly shared this explicit content with another individual who had already been apprehended by authorities in connection with a separate, yet related, investigation.
Court documents indicate that Bulanda did not stop at simply sharing the image. He actively encouraged his associate to use that material to blackmail the minor victim. The ultimate goal of this pressure was to force the victim into producing even more explicit images.
To ensure the success of this cruel operation, Bulanda reportedly went to great lengths. Prosecutors claim that he supplied his accomplice with sensitive personal information regarding the victim and the victim's family. This act was designed to intimidate the minor and create an environment of fear that would make the victim feel they had no choice but to comply with the demands of their tormentors.

The legal repercussions for Bulanda are severe. By pleading guilty to one count of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, he acknowledges the magnitude of his actions.
