The FBI has identified 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar as the suspect in the New Orleans terrorist attack that claimed 10 lives and injured 35 others on New Year’s Eve.

 The tragedy unfolded when Jabbar drove a rented Ford pickup truck into crowded streets, turning the festive evening into chaos.

The FBI has classified the incident as “an act of terrorism.”

 Investigators revealed that an ISIS flag was found inside the vehicle. “An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the subject's potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” the agency stated.

Attack Details and Aftermath

After crashing through barricades and wounding two police officers from his vehicle, Jabbar exited the truck and opened fire on law enforcement. Police returned fire, killing the suspect.

Video footage captured horrifying scenes, including bodies lying in the street as bystanders and military personnel rushed to assist.

The injured victims were transported to five local hospitals. NOLA Ready, New Orleans' emergency preparedness department, reported that the wounded officers are now in stable condition.

Weapons and potential explosive devices were found in the suspect’s vehicle and other locations in the French Quarter. 

The FBI’s bomb technicians are investigating the viability of these devices. “Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter,” the FBI confirmed.

FBI Investigates Terrorist Ties

New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick described the assailant as being in full military gear.

“This is not just an act of terrorism, this is evil,” Kirkpatrick stated. “He was hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did.”

Federal and local agencies, including the Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are collaborating to respond to the attack.
