Nintendo today unveiled a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, locking in a November 5 launch during a Zelda-focused Nintendo Direct that felt like a portal cracking open to 1998.

The updated version sports a fresh visual style, full voice acting, a dedicated jump button, manual camera controls and quicker item shortcut switching, according to IGN. Yet the heart of the classic remains untouched—the same labyrinthine dungeons and precise Z-targeting combat system endure, per Engadget, like a timeless melody preserved amid modern orchestration.

New Tools for a Familiar Quest

Nintendo added a menu called Threads of Time that maps a player’s place in the story and flags the next objective, according to IGN. Veterans who have the ocarina tunes etched in memory can simply sing them into the console’s microphone instead of tapping the traditional button sequence, Engadget reported—an almost magical shortcut that turns the player into the instrument.

A special-edition Switch 2 hardware bundle also debuted, wrapping controllers, dock and console body in Zelda-inspired artwork, according to Engadget.

Risky Timing Against a Giant

The November 5 date places Nintendo in uncommon territory: few publishers dare schedule a major title so near Grand Theft Auto 6, IGN noted. The move arrives as the company fights to keep Switch 2 momentum alive in its second market year.

Nintendo’s August first-quarter results showed Switch 2 hardware sales sliding 34.4 percent year-over-year to 3.82 million units, while software sales climbed 9.2 percent to 9.46 million. New releases helped sustain interest, and sell-through was running ahead of the original Switch at the same stage of its second year.

The company hiked the Switch 2’s U.S. price by $50 to $499.99 effective September 1, pointing to shifting market conditions. It now forecasts 16.5 million Switch 2 hardware units for the fiscal year ending March 2027—down from 19.86 million the prior year—and anticipates a combined 100 billion yen hit from rising memory prices and U.S. tariffs.
