                             An Oklahoma high school narrowly avoided catastrophe when its principal took a bullet while tackling an armed former student in a terrifying midday shooting attempt that could have turned deadly within seconds.

Kirk Moore, principal of Pauls Valley High School, is being hailed as a hero after charging at a 20-year-old gunman who stormed the campus with two semi-automatic handguns and opened fire. Surveillance footage captured the high-stakes confrontation that officials say likely saved multiple lives.

A Split-Second Decision That Changed Everything

The chaos unfolded just before 2.20 pm on April 7 inside the school lobby. According to investigators, the suspect entered the building, pointed his weapon, and shouted for everyone to get on the ground.

He then aimed at a female student and pulled the trigger. The gun malfunctioned.

Moments later, he turned toward another student.

That is when Moore burst out of his office.

"Principal Moore then came out of his office and charged at Hawkins."

The principal tackled the gunman, wrestling him to the ground despite being shot in the lower right leg. Another staff member rushed in to help subdue the attacker before more shots could be fired.

Authorities say Moore’s actions prevented a mass shooting.

"There’s not a doubt in my mind that he saved kids’ lives."

Gunman’s Disturbing Motive Revealed

Investigators identified the suspect as Victor Lee Hawkins, a 2025 graduate of the same school. Court documents reveal chilling details about his intent.

About 20 minutes before the attack, Hawkins allegedly took two firearms from his father’s home and drove to campus.

Authorities say Hawkins was obsessed with the 1999 Columbine High School massacre and wanted to carry out a similar attack.

Investigators also revealed a personal motive.

Principal Wounded but Students Spared

Despite the gunfire, no students were injured. Moore was the only person hurt and was treated at a hospital for his leg wound.

The suspect now faces multiple serious charges, including shooting with intent to kill, feloniously pointing a firearm, and carrying a weapon to a public assembly. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
