U.S. track star Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested in Orange County, Florida, after deputies say she was driving at an extremely high speed on a local roadway, according to records from the county sheriff’s office.

Authorities said the 25-year-old sprinter was stopped Thursday after a traffic officer observed a vehicle traveling at more than 100 miles per hour, while aggressively changing lanes and following other cars too closely. Deputies allege the car reached 104 mph, prompting an arrest on a charge tied to dangerous excessive speeding.

Richardson, one of the most recognizable faces in American athletics, has risen to global prominence in recent years. She captured Olympic gold as part of the U.S. women’s 4x100-meter relay team and earned a silver medal in the 100-meter sprint at the Paris Games. Known for her explosive starts and bold personality, she has remained a central figure in U.S. track and field.

Officials did not report any injuries related to the traffic stop. USA Track & Field had not issued a public statement regarding the arrest as of early Friday.

The incident adds to a series of off-track challenges for Richardson. In recent years, she has spoken openly about personal struggles and setbacks, including a high-profile suspension earlier in her career and a separate legal matter in 2025 that later drew a public apology from the athlete.

Despite those moments, Richardson has continued to compete at the highest level, playing a key role in U.S. relay success and remaining a medal contender heading into the next international championship cycle.
