Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg made some bold predictions for AI 2025.

He emphasized the rapid evolution of AI assistants, agentic AI capabilities, and AI-powered engineering. His vision could reshape the AI landscape and solidify Meta’s position as a leader in the field.

Meta AI to Reach 1 billion Users

Zuckerberg predicts that Meta AI, the company’s AI assistant, will reach 1 billion users in 2025. He envisions “a highly intelligent and personalized” AI assistant, setting Meta apart in the AI race. Additionally, he forecasts that Llama, Meta’s large language model (LLM), will become “the most advanced and widely used” LLM by the end of the year.

Predictions for AI 2025 includes the Power of AI Agents

A key part of Meta’s AI advancements lies in Llama 4, which Zuckerberg says will feature agentic capabilities. AI agents go beyond basic chatbots by applying reasoning to complex problems and executing solutions. These advanced systems can potentially transform industries by handling real-world tasks with greater autonomy and intelligence.

AI Engineering Agents: A Game-Changer

Zuckerberg also predicts a breakthrough in AI engineering, stating that AI will soon rival mid-level engineers in coding and problem-solving. He calls this innovation “potentially one of the most important innovations in history.” Meta previously announced plans to develop an AI engineer to assist with coding, reinforcing its commitment to leading AI research.

Meta’s Competitive Edge in AI

Meta’s dominance in social media—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—gives it a strong foundation, with over 3.3 billion users worldwide. This extensive reach provides a unique advantage in deploying AI at scale.

Meta initially aimed to acquire 600,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) in 2023. These were needed to support its AI initiatives. The company plan has evolved to increase its GPU count to 1.3 million by the end of 2024. The GPUs will significantly boost its AI training capabilities.

Additionally, Meta’s open-source approach to Llama allows widespread access and contributions. Open-source software often becomes an industry standard, positioning Meta as a potential leader in AI development.

Workforce Adjustments Amid AI Growth

In the meantime, Meta is making workforce adjustments. Last month, Zuckerberg reported in a company-wide memo that Meta planned to cut around 3,600 positions, or approximately 5% of its workforce, as part of performance-based layoffs.
