A cross-country flight is supposed to end with a quiet landing and a rush for baggage claim. This one ended with police, paramedics and an FBI investigation. US actress Selma Blair has been arrested and taken to a hospital after authorities say she attacked two flight attendants during a flight.

What Airport Officials Say Happened

Airport officials said they responded Sunday to a call about “a physically abusive passenger” on a Delta Airlines flight traveling from Los Angeles to New York. Two flight attendants were hurt, and one was taken to a hospital, the New York Port Authority said.

The 54-year-old actress, best known for roles in Legally Blonde, Hellboy and Cruel Intentions, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital. The FBI is investigating.

A Publicist Points to a Medical Emergency

Blair’s publicist told the BBC she “experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.” The statement added: “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”

The Flight and the Audio

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. local time aboard Delta Flight 938. According to CBS News, the BBC’s US media partner, the flight crew allegedly restrained Blair during the flight. Air traffic control audio obtained by CBS includes the pilot calling for medical personnel to meet the plane, citing a “bloody nose as well as some bite marks.”

Federal Investigators Step In

In a statement to the BBC, the FBI, which is responsible for investigating all assaults aboard aircraft, confirmed it is looking into “a potential assault aboard the flight” but declined to comment further. It remains unclear whether Blair will face charges. The BBC has contacted New York prosecutors.

Delta’s Response

A Delta spokesperson said law enforcement responded as the flight arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport and that the incident had no operational impact on the flight. “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” the airline said.

A Career Reshaped by Illness

Blair largely retreated from film work after her 2018 multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Years later she told the BBC she blames the disease for taking “my career down” because “I had to stop working.” In 2021, she announced the disease was in remission.

An Earlier Flight Incident

In 2016, Blair had another incident on a flight, when a drunken outburst led two nurses to subdue her aboard the aircraft. She later apologized publicly, saying she accidentally mixed her medication with alcohol and “made a big mistake” that caused her to “black out” and “say and do things that I deeply regret.”

“I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry,” she said at the time.

US media reported then that she was screaming uncontrollably and that nurses had to prop her up with a pillow and give her oxygen to calm her. She was taken off the plane on a stretcher when the flight landed in Los Angeles from Mexico, and was taken to a hospital.

With the FBI investigating and charging decisions pending, the full picture of what happened on Flight 938 is still taking shape.
