Michele Evans is suing Shannon Sharpe for defamation after his camp publicly claimed she served three years in prison for attempted murder — a claim she calls a complete and dangerous lie.

Shannon Sharpe can't stay out of a courtroom — and this time, the words spoken in his defense have become the most damaging weapon used against him.

In what may be the most explosive legal filing yet in the growing mountain of cases surrounding the former NFL Hall of Famer and ESPN personality, Michele Evans has filed a brand-new defamation lawsuit against Sharpe, alleging that a false and reckless statement made by his camp didn't just damage her reputation — it shattered her mental health, isolated her from the world, and left her fighting a crippling case of agoraphobia.

Let that sink in. A woman claims she can no longer leave her home — because of lies she says Shannon Sharpe's people told about her.

The Statement That Started It All

Filed on April 24, 2026, Evans' new complaint zeroes in on a specific public statement released by Sharpe's team that declared she was "still on probation after serving 3 years in prison for trying to kill her husband so that she could hopefully pursue a relationship with Shannon."

Evans says that statement is not just wrong — it is completely fabricated.

"[Shannon Sharpe's] statements are false," Evans said in her complaint. "[I] did not attempt to kill [my] husband and did not engage in the conduct alleged by [Sharpe]. [Sharpe] knew these statements were false at the time they were made, or acted with reckless disregard for their truth or falsity. [Sharpe] failed to conduct any reasonable investigation before making such serious accusations."

That's not spin. That's not damage control. That's a woman looking directly into the legal record and saying: you lied about me, you knew it was a lie, and you did it anyway.

Who Is Michele Evans — And What Does She Claim?

Michele Evans isn't a stranger to Shannon Sharpe. According to her earlier civil suit — filed in 2023 — the two were romantically involved in the early 2000s, when she was working as a reporter for ESPN and he was making his name as a standout tight end for the Denver Broncos.

Evans alleges their relationship turned dark. She claims Sharpe became increasingly abusive and possessive, and that the situation ultimately escalated to what she describes as a rape.

That 2023 case was just the beginning. Evans later expanded her legal fight, adding a second suit under the New York City Gender-Motivated Violence Act over an alleged sexual assault she says occurred in 2010.

Now, this new April 2026 filing brings the total battlefield to three active legal fronts — all connected to Shannon Sharpe.

The Psychological Toll: PTSD, Panic Attacks, and a Life Put on Hold

This is where the story becomes deeply human — and deeply troubling.

Evans doesn't just claim reputational damage. She describes a life unraveling in real time. According to her complaint, the false statement and its aftermath left her suffering from:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Severe anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Agoraphobia— a condition that makes leaving home feel impossible

"[I] required and continue to require ongoing psychological treatment, including weekly therapy," Evans states in her filing. "[I] further suffered damage to [my] reputation, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and social withdrawal."

Read that again: loss of enjoyment of life. What she is saying is that a statement made to protect Shannon Sharpe effectively stole her ability to live normally.

And it didn't stop there.

Social Media Made It Worse — Much Worse

Evans also alleges in her complaint that Sharpe's already damaging statement mutated into something even more horrifying once it hit social media. According to her filing, online users began spreading distorted versions of the claim — versions that said she had actually killed her husband, not merely attempted to.

She never attempted anything. She never did prison time. And yet, the internet took a lie and supercharged it into something worse.

This is the modern defamation nightmare: one false statement, amplified and distorted across platforms at the speed of a viral post, becoming an entirely different — and even more destructive — monster.

What She's Suing For

Evans is coming after Sharpe on three legal claims:

  1. Defamation per se— meaning the statement is so damaging on its face that she doesn't have to prove specific harm to her reputation
  2. Intentional infliction of emotional distress
  3. Negligent infliction of emotional distress

She's seeking both compensatory damages and punitive damages — the latter designed not just to compensate her, but to punish Sharpe for conduct the law considers egregious.

Shannon Sharpe's Legal and Financial Meltdown

Let's be clear about the bigger picture here: Shannon Sharpe is not just dealing with one lawsuit. He is navigating what can only be described as a full-scale legal crisis.

In July 2025, Sharpe settled a $50 million lawsuit brought by Gabriella Zuniga. Reports placed the payout at roughly $20 million. Days after that settlement was confirmed, ESPN cut ties with him entirely.

The man who was once one of the most celebrated analysts in sports media is now synonymous with courtrooms, settlements, and scandal.

And Michele Evans is making sure the record reflects what she says really happened to her.

Shannon Sharpe built his brand on bold talk. Now the words spoken on his behalf may cost him more than money — they may define his legacy.

Michele Evans is demanding accountability, and this new defamation lawsuit makes it unmistakably clear: she is not going away.
