Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP has bolstered its energy group by welcoming two seasoned partners from Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Teresa Morton Nyhart and Jeffrey Peabody joined Taft's Indianapolis office as partners in the energy group on June 10, according to a firm spokesperson.

Nyhart and Peabody, both veterans of Barnes & Thornburg, were drawn to Taft's expansive energy group and its resources in regulatory areas like renewable energy transactions, environmental compliance, and litigation.

With 36 years of experience, Nyhart brings a wealth of knowledge to Taft's energy and utility practices. Her expertise includes state regulatory, litigation, transactional, legislative, and appellate matters. She also works with public utility regulation, energy policy, renewable energy, and environmental compliance.

Nyhart's background includes a long tenure at Barnes & Thornburg's Indianapolis office, where she was a member of the energy, telecommunications, transportation, and utilities department.

Strengthening Regulatory Expertise

Peabody, who has been an attorney for nearly 16 years, advises on legal and regulatory issues for electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater utilities. His practice includes representing utilities in rate cases, periodic rate adjustment proceedings, and environmental compliance matters before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. His clients span investor-owned and municipal utilities, nonprofits, and privately held companies.

Taft's energy group has been on a growth trajectory, with recent additions enhancing its expertise and capabilities. In October 2023, Mark Alson and Kay Pashos joined the group from Ice Miller LLP, further strengthening Taft's regulatory and utility representation.
