A violent confrontation spiraled into tragedy Friday afternoon in a Brooklyn bodega teen shooting, where a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot inside a neighborhood store—turning an ordinary day into a scene of chaos and grief.

The incident unfolded with the suddenness of a storm breaking through calm skies, leaving witnesses shaken and a community searching for answers.

Deadly Clash Inside Local Deli

Police identified the victim as Marquise Byfield, who was shot multiple times inside Livonia Deli & Grocery, located at 909 Livonia Ave. in the New Lots section of Brooklyn.

The shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m., according to authorities.

Officers responding to the scene found Byfield suffering from critical gunshot wounds to his torso and groin. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Witness Describes Moment Gunfire Erupted

Store manager Karrar Obaid said the violence began as a physical altercation between two teens.

“The first one came in and the second one came in behind him, and they started fighting,” Obaid told the Daily News.

Moments later, gunfire shattered the air.

“I was behind the counter. When we heard shots, we lay down on the floor,” he said. “There was blood everywhere.”

Suspect Remains at Large

Police believe the shooter is another teenager, possibly between 15 and 16 years old. As of Saturday morning, the suspect had not been apprehended.

Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Rising Violence in the Area

The Brooklyn bodega teen shooting comes amid a troubling rise in gun violence in the area.

According to New York Police Department data, there have been 15 shootings in the 75th precinct so far this year through April 19—a 36% increase compared to the same period last year, when 11 incidents were recorded.
