The Pentagon Dropped Its Third UFO File Batch. One Document Admits 40% Is Still Unexplained.

The files keep coming. And with each drop, the official explanations get thinner.

On Friday, the Pentagon released its third batch of declassified UAP records in five weeks. Seventy-two files from the FBI, CIA, NASA and the Department of Defense. And buried in that stack is a document signed by the Pentagon's own UAP office director estimating that unrecognized technology may explain up to 40% of a major cluster of sightings.

That assessment did not come from a whistleblower or a congressman. It came from Dr. Jon Kosloski, the director of the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office.

What Five Federal Agents Saw in the Desert

The most detailed accounts in the third batch center on five federal law enforcement agents. Two nights. A sensitive national security site somewhere in the western United States in October 2023.

The agents described red lights that "accelerated instantly and maneuvered with perfect, smooth coordination into a horizontal formation" One agent lost count after five separate occurrences of smaller orbs appearing to emerge from a larger glowing object. His comparison for what he witnessed: "grapes being expelled from a basketball"

Another agent turned to his partner as the lights moved overhead.

"Are you seeing this?"  The partner was seeing it.

The case remains unresolved. Dr. Kosloski's document, dated June 5, 2026 and included in this release, states that "unrecognized technology might account for up to 40% of the phenomena" observed during those two nights.

From a Colorado Mountainside to a Pond That Held a Secret

The western incident is not the only case the files struggle to explain.

In 2022, a former Army intelligence officer and four members of his unit watched an object above the Cheyenne Mountains in Colorado Springs. They described it as potato-shaped, cream-white and translucent, its surface covered in what looked like "articulating fish scales or panels that were non-symmetrical, non-overlapping, and irregularly shaped" The panels moved in slow waves across its surface. Then the object vanished. No shadow was left behind.

In October 2024, a separate account describes a luminous sphere hovering 2,700 feet above a pond in the northeastern United States. Pentagon documentation calls it a "plasma-like sphere intermittently changing shape and luminosity" It held its position for roughly 45 minutes before disappearing without explanation.

What the Government Sat On for Decades

The third batch also includes two audio recordings that raise a different kind of question.

One is a debrief from NASA's Apollo 16 mission, recorded in 1972. Another is a November 1962 interview in which astronaut Gordon Cooper told journalist Walter Cronkite that "a large number of exceptionally well-qualified people have seen objects" with no logical explanation.

The government held both recordings for decades before making them public now.

The files also surface a document that reveals how Washington once handled public curiosity about UFOs. A 1952-1953 CIA scientific advisory panel concluded that flying saucers posed no physical threat. But it still recommended "debunking" the subject, with the explicit goal of stripping it of its mystery and preventing adversaries from exploiting what officials called the "morbid national psychology" around it.

The strategy held for most of the following 70 years. Then came PURSUE.

1.7 Billion Reasons Washington Is Paying Attention

The Trump administration launched the disclosure program on May 8, 2026. The first batch contained 158 records. The second, released on May 22, had 64. Friday's release marked the third drop in five weeks, all available at WAR.GOV/UFO. That website has received more than 1.7 billion visits since launch.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the release "demonstrates the Trump Administration's earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency"

What those 1.7 billion people are finding is this: after three rounds of disclosures, the government's own experts still cannot explain what federal agents witnessed in that desert in October 2023. More files are scheduled to come. Whether the answers will come with them is another question entirely.

The push for disclosure has been building for months, driven by congressional hearings and whistleblower accounts.
