As billions in oil hang in the balance and military pressure intensifies, US President Donald Trump has ignited fresh controversy by sharing a provocative image labeling one of the world’s most critical oil corridors the “Strait of Trump”.

The post, shared Wednesday night on Truth Social, featured a map of the Strait of Hormuz stamped with the bold phrase, “Strait of Trump” across the narrow passageway that carries a significant share of global oil supply.

The move comes as Washington and Tehran remain locked in a high stakes standoff, with negotiations stalled and rhetoric sharpening.

"Get Smart Soon" Warning to Tehran

Earlier Wednesday, Trump escalated his tone, urging Iran to make a deal before the situation worsens.

“Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon!” he wrote.

The warning underscores growing frustration inside the White House as diplomatic efforts fail to produce progress.

Billions in Oil Trapped as Naval Pressure Mounts

At the center of the crisis is a massive economic chokehold. The US military revealed it has redirected 42 ships attempting to pass through its naval blockade of Iranian ports.

“There are 41 tankers with 69 million barrels of oil that the Iranian regime can’t sell”, US Central Command said. “That’s an estimated $6 billion-plus from which Iran’s leadership cannot financially benefit”.

The numbers highlight the scale of the financial pressure now bearing down on Tehran, cutting off a crucial revenue stream and raising the stakes for both sides.

Iran Vows Retaliation in Strategic Waterway

Tehran is not backing down. Iranian officials have pledged to continue disrupting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz for as long as they feel threatened.

Drone Shot Down Near US Embassy in Baghdad

Tensions are no longer confined to the seas. In Iraq, a surveillance drone flying near the US Embassy in Baghdad was shot down, according to local security sources.

Sources told Reuters that the drone had been shot down early Thursday, local time, after embassy and Iraqi defence systems were activated.

The incident adds another layer of risk to an already volatile situation, raising fears of miscalculation and rapid escalation.
