The Most Serious Recall Category There Is

The FSIS has classified this recall as Class I, the agency's most severe category. That designation means there's a reasonable probability that consuming these products could result in serious medical consequences — a risk rooted in the simple fact that any food bypassing inspection could harbor undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants entirely undetected until it's too late.

How the Problem Came to Light

The lack of proper inspection was uncovered during routine FSIS surveillance — essentially a random check that pulled back the curtain on a much larger issue. Fortunately, no illnesses or injuries connected to the recalled meat have been reported so far, offering at least a measure of relief amid an otherwise unsettling discovery.

Tracing the Products Back to Their Source

According to the FSIS, the affected products were distributed in bulk under the A&D Foods label, bearing a falsified establishment mark reading "EST. 1363." Complicating matters for consumers trying to identify the recalled meat, individual retail packages may not actually display that A&D Foods bulk label, since individual stores often apply their own separate labeling — meaning shoppers can't necessarily rely on a single, easily recognizable marking to spot the affected product.

The guidance here is straightforward: don't panic, but don't eat it either. If you've already consumed any of the recalled meat, monitor your health closely and consult a healthcare provider if symptoms develop. For any meat still sitting in a freezer or fridge, the recommendation is simple — throw it away, or return it to the store where it was purchased.
