A chain-reaction collision turned a major interstate into a gridlocked corridor Tuesday, as the Westbound I-70 crash in Colorado unfolded near the Eisenhower Tunnel, snarling traffic and sending dozens to hospitals.

Authorities described the scene as a sprawling tangle of metal and motion — a sudden freeze-frame of chaos stretching across lanes in Clear Creek County.

Multi-vehicle pileup leaves dozens injured

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash was first reported around 2:50 p.m. and occurred in the eastbound lanes near milepost 216. What began as a single incident quickly escalated into a massive pileup.

The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office confirmed that at least 75 vehicles were involved — a scale that transformed the highway into what responders described as a logistical battlefield.
