Wiles announces cancer diagnosis

The announcement that Wiles announces cancer diagnosis sent ripples through Washington on Monday as President Donald Trump revealed that his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

Despite the health challenge, Trump said Wiles plans to continue carrying out her duties at the White House while undergoing treatment, calling her prognosis “excellent.”

Diagnosis Revealed by President Trump

The news surfaced through a post on Truth Social, where Trump shared details about Wiles’ condition.

Wiles, 68, has served as chief of staff since Trump began his second presidential term in 2025. According to the president, her determination to remain active in her role reflects the resilience that has defined her career in politics.

During the treatment period, she will be spending virtually full time at the White House, which makes me, as President, very happy,” Trump wrote.

He praised her “strength and commitment,” adding that her willingness to continue working while undergoing treatment demonstrates the dedication that has made her one of his most trusted advisors.

Trump also described Wiles as one of his “closest and most important advisors.”

Wiles Confirms Diagnosis and Expresses Gratitude

In her own statement, Wiles confirmed she was diagnosed last week and credited doctors for detecting the illness early.

She said she feels optimistic about the road ahead and expressed gratitude for the medical team overseeing her treatment.

Wiles also thanked Trump for what she described as his “support and encouragement” during the early days following the diagnosis.

A Personal Message About Breast Cancer

In her statement, Wiles reflected on the broader reality faced by many women across the United States.

Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis,” she said.

She added that countless women continue to raise families, pursue careers and contribute to their communities despite the challenge.

Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks,” Wiles said.

According to a person familiar with the matter, Wiles informed Trump about the diagnosis soon after learning the news. The individual spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private conversation.

A Historic Role in the White House

Wiles holds a historic distinction as the first woman to serve as a president’s chief of staff.

Trump has frequently highlighted her influence within the administration, at times calling her the “most powerful woman in the world.” He has also given her the nickname “Susie Trump.”

Continuing Work During Treatment

Shortly after the diagnosis became public, Wiles appeared alongside Trump at an event at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

She sat next to the president during a meeting of Kennedy Center board members.

During the gathering, Trump acknowledged that Wiles had already begun treatment.

She just started actually and she’s going to be in great shape,” Trump said, patting Wiles on the back as he spoke.

Decades in Republican Politics

The moment marks the latest chapter in Wiles’ long career in Republican politics.

Over the years, she has worked with several prominent GOP figures, including Mitt Romney and Rick Scott.

Wiles joined Trump’s political orbit during the 2016 campaign, serving as Florida campaign chair. Her role in the movement expanded over time, eventually leading to her appointment as campaign manager in 2022 alongside Chris LaCivita.

Following Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, she was tapped to lead the White House staff as chief of staff in 2025.

Now, as Wiles announces cancer diagnosis, she continues navigating both the responsibilities of one of Washington’s most demanding roles and a personal medical battle—an intersection of duty and determination unfolding in real time at the heart of American politics.
