On Saturday it was reported that some of Will Smith’s movie projects are being canceled or paused. And Will Smith career may be taking a hit. The news comes after the March 27th Oscars controversy. 

Mega-star Will Smith went up on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock during the award show.  Rock was in the middle of presenting an award for best documentary feature at the time. And he made an off-hand joke about GI Jane directed to Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Jada Pinkett has a shaved head due to the medical condition, known as alopecia.

After Smith slapped Chris Rock, he returned to his seat. And shouted toward the comedian “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.”

Later in the show, a teary-eyed Will Smith accepted the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in “King Richard.”

Will Smith career in question?

Shortly after the event Hollywood publicist Michael Levine claimed that Smith may have “deeply damaged” his career. 

And Forbes Magazine box office analyst Scott Mendelson said he believed Smith had destroyed “a carefully crafted 30-year image of approachable, harmless and always-on movie star charisma.” 

The Hollywood Reporter and other outlets say that two Will Smith projects, a Netflix film and a Sony movie, are being put on hold.

Netflix has stopped looking for a director for “Fast and Loose,” in which Smith was set to play a crime boss with memory issues.

Sony is pausing the “Bad Boys 4,” project. The movie was reportedly already cast and staffed. It was the fourth installment in the Bad Boys franchise. And Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were scheduled to reprise their starring roles.

The Apple+ slave drama “Emancipation,” in which Smith had a starring role has already been completed.

The entire Will Smith career may be on hold.

Will Smith announced his resignation from The Academy of Motion Pictures. The Academy has the matter “under investigation” to determine if they will demand the return of the Oscar.

In the meantime, Rock refused to file a complaint with the LAPD. And he is still not talking about the humiliating slap heard round the world.
