A quiet Sunday evening in Baldwin Park turned into a scene of devastation as a fast-moving fire tore through a condominium complex, claiming one life and leaving dozens of residents suddenly without homes, according to Los Angeles County firefighters.

The flames were first reported around 8:10 p.m. in the 12800 block of Ramona Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials — the kind of call that starts routine and ends anything but.

Flames Intensify, Forcing Firefighters To Retreat And Regroup

What began as a manageable response escalated quickly. Within about an hour, the fire had grown aggressive enough that crews called for a third alarm, a signal that the blaze had outgrown any straightforward containment effort.
