Earlier today, President Donald Trump denied accusations of working for the Russian government.

Reviewing President Trump's Statements

During remarks to the press, the commander-in-chief spoke out about the aforementioned accusations:

"I never worked for Russia. Not only did I never work for Russia, I think it's a disgrace that you even asked that question because it's a whole big fat hoax."

President Trump's statements come after new reports that the FBI previously opened an investigation into whether or not Trump shared ties with Moscow, Russia. The investigation began after Trump fired former FBI director James Comey. Since the FBI's investigation loosely connected with Mueller's probe into alleged Russian collusion during the 2016 election, the special counsel assumed responsibility for it.

During a recent Fox News interview, the president denounced the assertion of working for Russia as "insulting." Trump furthermore stated that nothing came of the probe.

Trump and Alleged Ties to Russia

Since the inception of Donald Trump's presidency, he has faced accusations of Russia collusion from critics. Despite the lack of evidence, many Democrats maintain that the probe has merit. Trump's detractors also note that some of his various associates, such as Michael Cohen, have faced legal consequences as a result of the probe.

Towards the end of last year, Michael Cohen received a jail sentence of three years for a series of white-collar crimes. One of the crimes included campaign finance violations; this directly ties in with Cohen's conduct during the 2016 election. The former Trump attorney issued payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal; both women alleged to engaging in extramarital affairs with Trump between 2006 and 2007. The president, however, denies partaking in affairs with Daniels and McDougal.

President Trump's relationship with his Russian counterpart is another subject of intrigue for believers of Russia collusion. Many Americans who dislike the president have referred to him as a "puppet" of the Russian president. This served as a common talking point which Hillary Clinton employed during the 2016 election.

At this point, allegations of Trump colluding with Russia are unlikely to subside. The president's supporters maintain that such assertions are politically motivated; Trump's detractors, however, believe otherwise. It does not appear as though either side will change the other's mind.
