Recently filed court documents indicate the Trump Organization and President Trump’s assets, including Seven Springs LLC, are under investigation by the New York Attorney General, following claims that Trump inflated the value of his assets.

The documents were filed on Monday, the first day of the Republican National Convention. Attorney General Letitia James requested that a New York court order the Trump Organization and others to comply with subpoenas.

In particular, Eric Trump, the current head of the Trump Organization, has been asked to provide testimony.

New York state’s top prosecutor originally began the investigation in March 2019, after Michael Cohen, former personal lawyer to Trump and senior executive within the Trump Organization, shared Trump’s financial statements with Congress.

Cohen claimed that President Trump inflated his assets to secure favorable tax benefits and loans. Since Cohen’s testimony, the attorney general’s office has issued “a number of subpoenas and has taken testimony seeking information material to these matters.”

As of today, no charges have been filed against President Trump himself or his son Eric Trump. Nor have charges been filed against the Trump Organization for any wrongdoing.

In a prepared statement, James claims:

“For months, the Trump Organization has made baseless claims in an effort to shield evidence from a lawful investigation into its financial dealings,” further adding “They have stalled, withheld documents, and instructed witnesses, including Eric Trump, to refuse to answer questions under oath.”

James is a member of the Democratic Party and began her tenure as attorney general in 2018. Her platform consisted of a handful of key issues common amongst Democrats, including immigration reform, addressing gun violence, police accountability, gender equity within the workplace, and environmental protection.

For President Trump, this surely is not new. Since 2016, the President has been implicated in multiple investigations, including claims of Russian collusion which the Mueller investigation failed to substantiate.

Whether James’ investigation will lead to any arrests remains to be seen. As of today, the investigation has failed to find any substantive evidence of the President or those close to him illegally inflating assets.
