Black Friday posted record-breaking sales in the U.S. where shoppers spent $9.12 billion online. 

The experts forecast a modest 1% rise in year-over-year Black Friday sales. But online spending rose 2.3% thanks to consumers holding out for discounts until the traditionally big shopping days. It seemed consumers were resisting deals until Thanksgiving.

 Adobe Analytics reported that consumers sidestepped the rising prices, due to high inflation, to grab steep discounts on everything from tech gadgets to children's toys.

Adobe measures e-commerce by reviewing website transactions at 85% of the top 100 internet retailers in the U.S.

Adobe anticipates that Cyber Monday will be the year's biggest online shopping day, driving $11.2 billion in sales.

Cyber Week is the five days from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. And this is considered the most important and biggest shopping period for the year.

Retailers were expecting consumers to hit the stores after two years of the pandemic. Black Friday did not draw a huge crowd for in-store shopping.

Black Friday hauled in 11.2 billion, which was $2 billion more than projected. 

Cyber Monday is projected to grow 5.1% over last year with $11.2 billion in sales, Adobe said.

Many Americans put smartphones to make their holiday purchases, with data from Adobe showing mobile shopping represented 48% of all Black Friday digital sales.

Analysts have been predicting that the online holiday shopping season this year, was going to be fairly unimpressive. The first three weeks of November had flat online sales numbers, Experts believed this was the result of a weak economy and inflation. It was expected that in-store retail shopping would dramatically rise since the pandemic restrictions are over.

Thanksgiving weekend brought more online business than expected. 

Since Adobe hasn’t reported volumes, it’s difficult to know if the sales numbers are higher due to items costing more in 2022, or if the higher sales numbers are a result of more purchases.

Black Friday has long been an indicator of whether the e-commerce market and consumer confidence are faring well.

Online holiday shopping is growing at a slower pace than in the previous year. And it continues to break records.  

Per Adobe, Cyber Week 2022, is estimated to generate $34.8 billion in online spending. And that represents 16.3% of the November to December holiday season.
