According to October 27 court documents Sam Brinton, 35 is being charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing a $2,325 Vera Bradley suitcase at Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) Airport in September.

Brinton is the U.S. Department of Energy’s deputy assistant secretary of nuclear waste disposal. An outspoken activist, Brinton, was hired by the Biden administration in February. And identifies as genderfluid and uses them/they pronouns.

According to Brinton’s 2018 Instagram, they were a member of a drag queen society called the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” and dressed up as a drag queen character called Sister Ray Dee O’Active.

They also gave talks promoting “pup-play” and other forms of sexual fetishes. They have encouraged bondage and animal role-playing.

According to a 2017 article in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s student newspaper, Brinton loves to tie up a sexual partner and eat a meal on them while watching Star Trek.

Felony theft charges filed

Airport security cameras captured them taking a woman’s roller bag from the baggage carousel on September 16. They were filmed removing the tags and leaving at a “quick pace,” according to the complaint.

“After DEFENDANT took the blue bag from Carousel 7, DEFENDANT is observed leaving the airport in a Rideshare vehicle with the blue bag,” the complaint read.

“Records from American Airlines confirmed that DEFENDANT did not check a bag when DEFENDANT departed Washington D.C. to MSP Airport.”

They were questioned by police on October 9 after security footage showed the nuclear official carrying the bag at Dulles International Airport.

According to the complaint Brinton initially claimed that the bag was taken by mistake. And no clothes or objects had been removed from the case. But later revised the story.

“Approximately two hours later, DEFENDANT called your Complainant. DEFENDANT apologized for not being “completely honest”. DEFENDANT admitted to taking the blue bag but stated they were tired and took the suitcase thinking it was theirs. DEFENDANT said when they opened the bag at the hotel, they realized it was not theirs,” the complaint read.

“DEFENDANT got nervous people would think they stole the bag and did not know what to do. DEFENDANT stated they left the clothes from the bag inside the drawers in the hotel room.”

None of the allegedly stolen clothes were recovered from Brinton’s hotel room. And the victim has never gotten her luggage, or its contents returned.

The complaint said Brinton continued to use the suitcase on trips.

Law enforcement has a film of Brinton using the allegedly stolen suitcase during at least two trips to Washington DC and Europe on September 18 and October 9.

If found guilty under Minnesota law, Brinton faces up to five years in jail, a $10,000 fine, or both for felony theft.
