Worm Moon 

The term "Worm Moon" might sound strange, but it bears a profound significance rooted in Native American folklore. As spring emerges, so do beetle larvae and other creatures, hence the name.

 This third full moon of 2024 is also dubbed the "Crow Moon" and the "Lenten Moon," holds a special allure.

It sets in a part of the sky that astrologers claim has the influence of Libra. A full moon in the constellation of Virgo falling along the Aries/Libra sign axis from April 2023 to March 2025.

Such eclipses are said to be about emotions, feelings, and insight leading to resolutions.

Its radiance will pierce through the Earth's outer shadow, casting a subtle veil over its luminous surface.

As the clock strikes 12:53 a.m. ET, the moon will align almost perfectly with the sun and Earth, ushering in the penumbral eclipse. 

Though the moon's glow will be slightly dimmed, its ethereal beauty remains undiminished. 

Dr. Shannon Schmoll, director of the Abrams Planetarium at Michigan State University, describes how the eclipse will manifest as a soft gradient of darkening that will be discernible by keen observers.

Eclipse Season

The spectacle of the Worm Moon will be visible for most regions graced by the night's embrace. In Europe, North and East Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, and South America the penumbral moon will adorn the sky for all to admire.

Eclipse season is a celestial symphony orchestrated by the cosmic ballet of the Sun, Earth, and Moon. Every six months it unfurls its magic. There is a 35-day window of celestial alignments, culminating in breathtaking lunar and solar eclipses.

Lunar and solar eclipses, like cosmic dance partners, grace us in pairs. Following Monday’s lunar spectacle, the stage is set for a total solar eclipse slated for April 8th. This cosmic event will traverse Mexico, the United States, and Canada, painting the skies with awe-inspiring splendor.

But hold onto your telescopes, for this is just the opening act of eclipse season. 

Unlike solar eclipses, which demand protective eyewear for safe viewing, lunar eclipses invite spectators to witness the moon's transformation without eye protection. And binoculars and telescopes also work.

2024 Full Moons

Mark your calendars for skywatching dates in 2024. An annular solar eclipse on October 2nd will grace parts of South America, casting a mesmerizing "ring of fire" across the heavens. Meanwhile, a partial lunar eclipse will enchant viewers across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas on September 17th and 18th.

Adding to the astronomical extravaganza are the Super Moons of September and October. These celestial marvels, characterized by the moon's proximity to Earth, illuminate the night sky with an unparalleled brilliance.
