The Kamala Harris campaign has distanced itself from the controversy surrounding a CBS-edited segment of the Vice President’s “60 Minutes” interview. Former President Donald Trump demanded CBS issue an apology for airing two different versions of her response to a question.

In a teaser clip released online and during “Face the Nation” on October 6, Harris gave an extended response to correspondent Bill Whitaker’s question about U.S. influence over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The clip was widely panned, and her answer was very difficult to understand.

However, the final version that aired on October 7 was a lot different, and at least 50% shorter.

The two versions of the interview have circulated widely on social media, and many are calling for CBS to release the full transcript of the interview. 

CBS-edited Interview causes Controversy

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, criticized the editing, claiming, "I've never seen this before, but the producers of 60 Minutes sliced and diced Lyin' Kamala's answers...all in an effort, possibly illegal...to make her look more Presidential."

He further described the situation as a “stain” on the show's reputation and demanded a public apology.

Amid this uproar, an aide for the Harris campaign distanced it from the show, stating, “We do not control CBS’s production decisions and refer questions to CBS.”

CBS News addressed the controversy during its Monday night broadcast. Then they alleged that Trump had backed out of his own scheduled “60 Minutes” interview.

However, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung disputed this, claiming that “there was nothing scheduled or agreed upon.”

According to Variety here are the 2 versions of her answer to one question.

Interview Version 1

Here is Harris’ longer response. It aired Oct 6 as a teaser to the program. And was widely criticized, as being, mostly incoherent.

Whitaker: Does the U.S. have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?

Harris: The aid that we have given Israel allowed Israel to defend itself against 200 ballistic missiles that were just meant to attack the Israelis and the people of Israel. And when we think about the threat that Hamas, Hezbollah presents, Iran, I think that it is without any question our imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against those kinds of attacks."

"Now the work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles, which include the need for humanitarian aid, the need for this war to end, the need for a deal to be done which would release the hostages and create a ceasefire. And we’re not going to stop in terms of putting that pressure on Israel and in the region, including Arab leaders."

Whitaker: But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening.

Harris: "Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region."

Harris: We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.
